About The Position

The College and Career Advisor is responsible for supporting youth as they prepare for and transition into post-secondary education and career pathways. This role includes guiding youth through the college search and admissions process, assisting with scholarship opportunities, supporting financial aid completion, and providing career exploration and planning services. The Advisor will also assist with the Youth Advisory Committee (YAC) leadership program for middle and high school youth, helping them develop leadership skills through regular meetings and service projects, which may occasionally take place after program hours or on weekends. In addition, the College and Career Advisor will support the Out-of-School Time (OST) program on a regular basis to help facilitate activities, build positive relationships with youth, and ensure alignment between academic advising, enrichment opportunities, and leadership development. The Advisor will work closely with ABC program staff and local ISD schools to ensure youth gain the skills, resources, and guidance needed to succeed in their academic and career journeys.

Requirements

  • Two years of college and on track to completing a bachelor’s degree required.
  • One year of experience working with inner city youth.
  • CPR certification required or the ability to obtain prior to starting.
  • Valid driver’s license required.

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, social services, or related field preferred.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English/Spanish desirable based on program, business needs and service requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Program Coordinator to strategize and implement outreach and retention efforts for college and career activities.
  • Work in tandem with the YAC Coordinator and the CCR team to coordinate Youth Advisory Committee (YAC) program services.
  • Conduct one-on-one meetings with youth to assess their goals and needs.
  • Provide personalized goal-setting and career planning services to support youth in their post-secondary journeys.
  • Identify and coordinate academic programs, college tours, and plan college-related events both on and off campus, including field trips.
  • Co-facilitate YAC meetings and leadership activities in alignment with program and contractual guidelines.
  • Develop and deliver lesson plans and curricula to ensure youth are well-prepared for college and career readiness.
  • Connect participants with alumni networks for ongoing support and maintain contact with program alumni as needed.
  • Document youth progress and participation, preparing and submitting monthly reports as required.
  • Assist with the after-school program on a regular basis, contributing to its activities and youth engagement.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Program Coordinator and/or Program Manager
  • Manages volunteers, interns, and/or work-study students when assigned.
