About The Position

We are seeking an experienced and motivated College and Careers Counselor to join our high school team. The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of college admissions processes, particularly in the United States, and will be adept at guiding students through career exploration and college application strategies. A strong understanding of the New Jersey Standards and International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum requirements is essential to ensure student subject selection ensures Diploma completion and pathway into their desired colleges, overseas universities or workplaces. Successful candidates will have established relationships with U.S. colleges and grow connections with international institutions relevant to our students. They will have a commitment to bilingual, international, and interdisciplinary education, and a collaborative approach to helping students realize their short and long-term academic and career goals. The College and Careers Counsellor will take a holistic view of students development and will build trusting relationships with students through a range of initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Counseling, Education, or a related field
  • Extensive knowledge of college admissions processes in the United States
  • Experience working in high school counseling, college advising, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with the New Jersey and International Baccalaureate high school curriculum requirements.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in English.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Strong connections to local and regional colleges and universities are highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Guide students in college and career planning, including the college application process, career exploration, and goal-setting for post-secondary pathways.
  • Provide individualized and group counseling and career sessions that target necessary skills. For example: resume writing, subject selection, interviewing, building GPA through community service and extracurricular activities, social skill development.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of college admissions processes, financial aid resources, and scholarship opportunities.
  • Develop and sustain strong relationships with U.S. and relevant overseas colleges and universities, with a particular focus on institutions that accept the International Baccalaureate and that are local to the New Jersey Area.
  • Collaborate with teachers, parents, and students to ensure that students meet New Jersey High School Diploma and IB Diploma Program requirements.
  • Oversee relevant programs that build student career readiness and personal development eg: Duke of Edinburgh, Work Experience.
  • Conduct workshops and informational sessions for students and families on college and career topics, including standardized test preparation.
  • Organize college visits, career fairs, and informational sessions that introduce students to a range of college and career options.
  • Serve as a resource for students exploring diverse post-secondary paths, including trade schools, community colleges, work, and other international programs.
  • Participate in school events and activities, build relationships with students and families through involvement in classes, extra-curricular activities and student wellbeing initiatives.
