About The Position

Under supervision, performs miscellaneous clerical, administrative, research or other work related to the operation of a College or other unit where such work is required on a part-time basis or for a period of limited duration. There is one Assignment Level for this position. All personnel perform related work. This specification describes typical assignments; related duties may be assigned as needed. Maximum tenure for any employee in this hourly position is 1040 hours per year. Performs routine clerical work; may answer and attend to telephone calls; maintain records, operate office machines (such as copier), sort and distribute mail, issue keys and identity cards, act as messenger, and perform related tasks as required. Types letters, memoranda, charts, and similar materials. Acts as cashier. Assists in statistical or research activities. May collect and compile data, code data for computer entry, perform data entry, and run computer reports. Performs clerical library work, such as sorting and shelving books, performing data entry into library systems, or binding books and periodicals. Assists in instructional programs, including tutoring and assisting students in areas such as reading and mathematics. May assist in speech and hearing therapy, provide musical accompaniment, and/or distribute and collect physical education equipment. Enters and maintains departmental records such as inventory control records, rosters, directories, and schedules. May operate computers, computer software, and other electronic equipment in performing assigned tasks. This position supports key student-facing initiatives at Bronx Community College, including: New York State Opportunity Promise (NYSOP) - FAST Coaches CUNY FAST Coaches assist adult learners and returning students by guiding them through admissions, enrollment, and financial aid processes. FAST Coaches serve as peer mentors, assist with NYSOP onboarding, support cross-campus referrals, and facilitate student success programming. First Year Program - Peer Mentors Assigned to First-Year Seminar (FYS 11) courses, Peer Mentors help first-year students navigate college life, connect to services, and develop academic and career goals. Responsibilities include class presentations, co-curricular workshops, attendance tracking, and peer support. Online and Engagement Mentors Peers working with BCC's Online Degree Programs provide virtual outreach, onboarding, and connection to resources for fully online students, many of whom are adult learners. Peers also support virtual events and cohort-based engagement. Career Development Peer Mentors Assigned to the Office of Career Development, these peers assist with employer engagement events, career workshops, and helping students prepare professional materials like resumes and cover letters, especially NYSOP students in high-demand fields. Typical duties include, but are not limited to: Performing routine clerical work including answering phones, scheduling, data entry, and managing electronic or paper files. Greeting and directing diverse populations of students, staff, and visitors in a courteous and professional manner. Assisting in onboarding, processing, and advising support for new and returning students, particularly adult learners. Supporting college departments in outreach, student events, onboarding sessions, and workshops (in-person and virtual). Participating in early engagement and re-enrollment efforts, including follow-up with students via phone, email, Zoom, or Navigate. Assisting students in completing college forms, accessing services, and using campus technology. Presenting or co-facilitating information sessions and peer mentoring activities in programs such as First Year Seminar (FYS 11). Assisting with resume review, event planning, or promotional efforts in the Office of Career Development. Supporting initiatives tailored to online students, including orientation and virtual engagement. Typing, formatting, and transcribing letters, memoranda, charts, and reports using standard office software. Performing related administrative and project-based duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must demonstrate sufficient skills to perform the duties of the assigned tasks.
  • High School Diploma or GED required.

Nice To Haves

  • Currently enrolled CUNY student familiar with Bronx Community College preferred.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Strong customer service orientation and a commitment to student success.
  • Experience working with adult learners, first-generation students, or diverse populations preferred.
  • Comfortable using platforms such as Zoom, Navigate, Microsoft Office, and Google Workspace.
  • Ability to work independently, follow directions, and complete tasks in a timely manner.
  • Flexible availability (including some evening or weekend hours).
  • Bilingual proficiency is a plus.
