About The Position

Collectors perform collection activities in obtaining delinquent payments involving court ordered fines, restitution and fees from diverse populations that include clients that are currently on probation. Standard Judicial Branch business hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. The position is on-site and in-person but may be eligible for a hybrid teleworking schedule following six months of employment within the role (dependent on the needs of the Judicial Branch). Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Three (3) years of collections or related experience OR Combined education and experience qualifications: Education may be substituted for the experience requirement on a year for year basis.
  • Knowledge of: Sources for checking financial conditions Pertinent statutes and governmental regulations
  • Skill in: Methods and techniques used in effecting collections Investigative procedures for collecting delinquent accounts Time management Microsoft Office programs, such as Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to: Analyze accounts and evaluate collectability Communicate effectively, both oral and written Prioritize a variety of tasks and other specialized clerical support duties with frequent interruptions Write formulas and create graphs and pivot table in Excel

Responsibilities

  • Resolves disputes with clients regarding court-ordered and administrative-ordered monetary assessments.
  • Evaluates collectability on delinquent accounts.
  • Coordinates and monitors legal recovery activities.
  • Prepares and maintains records and reports on collection activities and monies collected.
  • Prepares and submits documentation on payoff statements.
  • Performs skip-tracing and social security searches.
  • Reviews and prepares accounts for submission to tax intercept program, updates data base.
  • Conducts financial interviews, may review financial statements, and negotiate temporary equitable installment plans.
  • Reconciles obligation balances with the Clerk of Court RFR system.
  • Responsible for outbound and inbound collection calls.
  • Moderate computer skills with ability to become rapidly acclimated to changes in technology.
  • Works closely with both internal and external customers including the Clerk of the Court, Probation Officers, Administrative Office of the Courts, and various outside stakeholders.
  • Collects monies due from justice involved individuals for payments, fines, restitution, etc.
  • Monitors collections database.
  • Completes court documents such as Criminal Restitution Orders and requests for start dates on Financial Orders.
