The Collections Technician plays a vital role in ensuring felony offender restitution is accurately collected and distributed for the State of Montana. This position serves as the Department of Corrections’ liaison to courts, State and Federal Probation and Parole Officers, government officials, and victims of crime—building strong relationships to keep the restitution process efficient, compliant, and transparent. The technician interprets court orders, responds to inquiries from victims and offenders, and provides account status updates to justice partners and internal staff. In addition, the Collections Technician manages detailed financial tasks including accounts payable, accounts receivable, deposits, and reconciliation within the Department’s restitution system. Success in this role requires precise attention to detail, strong technical accounting skills, and a solid understanding of State and Federal laws and policies governing restitution. This position directly supports victims’ rights and contributes to the integrity of Montana’s correctional system.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma
  • One year of job-related experience or education in accounting, financial transactions, or bookkeeping
  • Alternative combinations of education and experience will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Responsibilities

  • Ensuring felony offender restitution is accurately collected and distributed
  • Serves as the Department of Corrections’ liaison to courts, State and Federal Probation and Parole Officers, government officials, and victims of crime
