About The Position

This is a part-time, at-will position. The selected candidate will work up to 20 hours per week. The position is anticipated to end after 6 months of employment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in History, Art History, Collections Conservation, Museum Studies, Library and Information Science, or a related field, or four (4) years paid professional experience in related activities.
  • Experience and education may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
  • Knowledge of effective project management, statistical analysis, and research methods and principles.
  • Ability to prepare and present project details using complex spreadsheet analysis, graphic presentations and technical reports to Division Managers, City Council, and general public.
  • Knowledge of government operations, processes, and public policy analysis.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse groups and people, including elected officials, department officials, staff, and community representatives.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with initiative, self-reliance, and dependability.

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of relevant Master’s degree or current enrollment in a Master’s program.
  • Knowledge of archiving and museum display principles and methods.
  • Ability to conduct archival research and synthesize large amounts of data to prepare short reports.
  • Knowledge of government operations, processes, record-keeping practices, and GRAMA.

Responsibilities

  • Inventory, catalog, and create a database of historical city artifacts collections.
  • Photographs all materials for the database.
  • Creates placards with information for objects on display at city owned spaces.
  • Establishes preventative conservation protocols for industry standard storage of artifacts and archival materials.
  • Conducts research into the history of city programs and initiatives.
  • Prepares short reports summarizing historical research.
  • Coordinates with the Recorder's Office and other city departments.
  • Assists in scanning and digitizing historical documents to create usable digital records.
