About The Position

Chicago Behavioral Hospital’s Central Business Office is seeking a driven and detail-oriented Collection Specialist to support timely reimbursement and effective management of accounts receivable. This role serves as a primary liaison between the facility and third-party payors, ensuring maximum reimbursement while minimizing aging receivables. The ideal candidate is professional, organized, analytical, and confident communicating with external payors to resolve account balances and support accurate financial outcomes.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Minimum two (2) years of healthcare collections experience required; Hospital business office experience highly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of insurance rules, reimbursement guidelines, and denial processes.
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Excel expected.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Professional, courteous, and confident telephone presence
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational ability
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Flexibility to work occasional overtime as needed

Nice To Haves

  • Hospital business office experience highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide timely follow-up and accurate collection of third-party payor receivables
  • Review, research, and resolve outstanding account balances to maximize reimbursement
  • Document all collection activities thoroughly and accurately within the accounting system
  • Recommend accounts for contractual, administrative, or charity write-offs per policy
  • Identify and escalate trends, issues, or barriers to reimbursement to leadership
  • Support departmental projects and clerical tasks as assigned
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and professionalism at all times
  • Adhere to facility, department, and corporate procedures and service standards
  • Support ongoing quality and performance improvement initiatives
  • Participate in required staff training and development sessions
