Job Summary: Under the direction of the Operations Team Leader, is responsible for operating a primary scroll shearing coil line and keep it maintained in a safe and efficient manner by following the set ups, change overs and directing the line while ensuring a high level of quality on all inputs and outputs in accordance with Company, customer, and product specifications.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Strong Mechanical aptitude (written skills test & hands-on test required)
  • Capable in learning through structured job training manuals, OEM machine manuals/interpretation, reading schematics, and line drawings.
  • Sound understanding of handling and using tools and measuring devices (aptitude test required)
  • Strong troubleshooting skills (tool vs. settings)
  • Be able to identify and use feeder, straightener, and press controls properly
  • Be able to setup for proper flatness of steel
  • Understand power sources on all machines used and machine hazards.
  • Ability to lead, take charge, and offer opinions and direction.
  • Able to present ideas / issues effectively, actively listen, and work across functional boundaries with the ability to effectively communicate with coworkers, customers, and vendors.
  • Basic computer skills
  • Ability to work all shifts including 8 or 12- hour shifts, daylight, and off-shifts as well as weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree in an industrial mechanic concentration or equivalent technical certification preferred
  • Experience in high volume manufacturing preferred

Responsibilities

  • Ensure proper machine setup based on specifications and requirements.
  • Adjust machine settings to ensure proper tension, speed, and alignment.
  • Operate and monitor machine production to detect any malfunctions or defects and maintain production flow.
  • Monitor the process, tag, and band finished stacks of plate and off load finished product.
  • Prepares production entries and other records of production activity as needed.
  • Safely operate console that controls automatic palletizing equipment to sort, transfer, and stack finished product on pallets.
  • Stop equipment to clear jams.
  • Inform proper personnel of equipment malfunction.
  • Visually inspect product and prepare all required documentation to maintain the highest quality finished product for our customers.
  • Maintain performance expectations with respect to key performance metrics and identify opportunities to improve operations.
  • Must be able to recognize waste (wasted labor, time, product, etc.) within the coil area, adjust accordingly and aid with developing action plans to drive continuous improvement.
  • Requires being careful about detail and thorough in completing work tasks.
  • Communicate directly with co-workers on issues, openly share ideas with others, encourage performance in others, give feedback when needed, and train new employees when applicable.
  • Effective communication to operations and supply chain teams to maintain product flow and prevent distribution disruptions.
  • Support the hazardous waste and recycling programs
  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment for self, team members, and equipment through daily maintenance, 5S, and housekeeping activities.
  • Shall understand the BRC Food Safety Policy, GMP’s, HACCP Principle and BRC Food Safety Standard.
  • While conducting work functions, ensures compliance of all policies, procedures, and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration rules (OSHA).
  • Perform various jobs of responsibility on a rotational basis.
  • Provide relief to personnel as necessary.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.
