About The Position

We are seeking a highly motivated Coding Education Supervisor to join our Coding Services department. This job can be performed 100% remotely, and out of state candidates will be considered. This position is responsible for coordination, planning and management of the day-to-day quality education training and coding reviews for Coding Services. The Coding Education Supervisor will work closely with Coding Services Managers to identify and resolve problems related to coding. Work with Coding Services Managers to develop, review, revise and implement related administrative policies and procedures in operational areas of correct coding and providing education for changes; and as needed based on coder audits. Provides extensive education and advice regarding ICD 10 and CPT coding to both coding staff and clinicians. The Coding Education Supervisor must have the ability to work effectively and collaboratively with clinicians and support staff as well as other internal CU Medicine Departments.

Requirements

  • CPC or AHIMA coding certification required
  • 5+ years Coding Experience with demonstrated expertise in procedural coding, diagnosis coding and medical records documentation is strongly preferred.
  • Strong computer and Microsoft Office software skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior education or auditing experience preferred but not required.
  • Preferred three to five years leadership experience.
  • Preferred EMR and Practice Management software experience.
  • Preferred Reporting and Analytical skills.
  • Preferred Bachelor’s Degree.

Responsibilities

  • Perform quality Assurance of staff coding, education and cross-training plans, and partnering with ACE and department management to deliver audits and create remediation plans.
  • Reporting duties include utilization of KAVart reports, MyBI reports, EPIC reports, Centricity Business reports to best understand the volumes and perform trend analysis, and Weekly charges processed report. Additional tableau reports to identify delete trends and down/up coding.
  • Lead daily, weekly and monthly staff meetings, maintaining staff morale, monthly staff meetings, teleworker management, side by side coaching and training, Work collaboratively with ACE to handle coding questions, unlisted code requests, audit questions etc.
  • Approve staff requests for PAL time in accordance with CU Medicine policies and keeps manager updated through the use of the Team Calendar.
  • Collaborate with new employees to ensure encounters are audited appropriately as Coder is getting up to speed on processes and accuracy requirements, providing immediate feedback on errors, and participating in the learning path process
  • Coordinate with Coding Services Manager to research correct coding for new procedures, as well as make recommendations for the proper coding existing procedures.
  • In conjunction with Coding Services Manager, participate in process improvement to maximize effective use of all Coding Services resources.
  • In conjunction with Coding Services Manager, applicable Coding Services Educator, and ACE, coordinate and develop training materials for new, existing, or problem areas.
  • In conjunction with Coding Services Manager, participate in the interviewing process as needed and provides impression of candidate and recommendation for or against hiring.
  • In conjunction with Coding Services Manager perform annual evaluation preparation and delivery, preparation and delivery of disciplinary actions.
  • Provide prompt approval of updates to Desk Procedures and partner with applicable Coding personnel to create new Desk Procedures as needed.
  • Handle Ad Hoc requests from other departments, clinicians, Handling Patient Coding Specific questions as they arise management, etc.
  • Perform other duties and assist with special projects as assigned.
