About The Position

As a Senior COBOL Developer, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the reliability, performance, and modernization of enterprise systems that support finance, operations, and transaction processing. You will manage the full lifecycle of COBOL applications from requirement analysis, architecture, and development to integration, performance optimization, and modernization initiatives. You will also have opportunities to influence system design, mentor junior developers, and drive innovation in environments where COBOL remains critical to business operations. This role is intended for talent pooling purposes; therefore, it does not involve an active recruitment process at this time.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of hands-on COBOL development experience in enterprise environments.
  • Expertise in COBOL, JCL, CICS, DB2, VSAM, IMS, z/OS.
  • Strong debugging experience resolving complex production issues.
  • Experience designing and documenting large-scale systems.
  • Ability to integrate COBOL systems with modern technologies.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Passion for clean, maintainable code and system reliability.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in finance, banking, insurance, or government systems.
  • Knowledge of ITIL or service management practices.
  • Exposure to modernization and cloud migration initiatives.
  • Experience mentoring junior developers.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain COBOL applications for batch and online processes.
  • Analyse business requirements and translate them into technical designs and flowcharts.
  • Debug, troubleshoot, and resolve production incidents, including batch and online abends.
  • Optimize system performance, scalability, and processing efficiency.
  • Integrate COBOL systems with middleware, distributed systems, and modern platforms.
  • Create and maintain high-quality technical documentation and design specifications.
  • Support full SDLC processes, from analysis to deployment and testing.
  • Collaborate with QA, Business Analysts, System Architects, and DevOps teams.
  • Mentor junior developers, review code, and promote engineering best practices.
