About The Position

The City of Phoenix is the grantee for a comprehensive early child development program providing early (ages 0-5) childhood education and family services to low income/at risk families. The Head Start Birth to Five Program provides developmental and educational services to pregnant women, infants, toddlers, preschoolers, and their families. The Human Services Department currently has vacancies for a Coach/Head Start Educator - Program Assistant. The Coach / Head Start EducatorProgram Assistant provides educational coaching, mentoring, training, and technical assistance to teaching staff. This position may also conduct classroom monitoring to ensure compliance with federal Head Start program performance standards. Using knowledge of theories and practices of Early Childhood Education, responsibilities include: Participating in on-site visits. Conducting classroom observations and work groups to assess program needs and assist with program planning. Providing guidance and support to staff with implementation of curriculum, individualized plans, and on-going assessments. Developing and disseminating resources and best practices for the process of implementing quality improvement efforts. Facilitating teaching workshops.

Requirements

  • Ability to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems, to plan, organize and coordinate program requirements.
  • Ability to understand and implement complex federal regulations, such as Arizona Child Care Licensing or Head Start Performance Standards.
  • Knowledge of Head Start Program Performance Standards, Arizona Department of Health Service, Child Licensure.
  • Knowledge of the Six Strategies of Active Supervision, and Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework.
  • Possession of the Child Development Associate credential, OR associate's degree in psychology, special education, social services, early childhood education, or a related field.
  • Three years of experience in developing and implementing parent education programs, OR Three years' experience in developing and implementing programs for children with disabilities, OR Three years of experience in preschool teaching including monitoring and evaluating preschool programs.
  • Working irregular hours, second or third shift, weekends, holidays, and evenings may be required.
  • All finalists for positions are subject to a criminal background check applicable to the department or position.
  • This position requires the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage.

  • Two or more years in Experience coaching teaching staff.
  • Two or more years in Experience providing technical assistance for program needs.
  • Three or more years of experience teaching early childhood education.
  • Head Start or Early Head Start experience.
  • Experience analyzing data and writing detailed reports.
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
