About The Position

Metrolinx is connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Metrolinx operates GO Transit and UP Express, as well as the PRESTO fare payment system. We are also building new and improved rapid transit, including GO Expansion, Light Rail Transit routes, and major expansions to Toronto’s subway system, to get people where they need to go, better, faster, and easier. Our Capital Audit Services department is looking for a Co-op Student to assist with the planning, execution, and reporting of results related to the annual Internal Audit plan. The Co-op Students will work with internal partners to provide support in the completion of required tasks and deliverables. You will report to the Manager, Capital Project Assurance.

Requirements

  • Must be attending school full-time and returning to an academic institution
  • Must be at least 15 years of age before starting employment
  • Enrolled in (Engineering, Accounting, Business Administration, Computer Science, Mathematics) at a post-secondary institution
  • Proficient in the Microsoft suite software application
  • Strong written, oral communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work with and assist other co-workers with various projects

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of engineering or construction project lifecycles (design, tendering, construction, commissioning) is considered an asset

Responsibilities

  • Participates in audits and projects in conformance with professional (IIA) standards and industry best practice. Other work may include financial, operational, internal control, value for money, and compliance audits and related risk assessments under the supervision of the Manager;
  • Assists with risk assessments for each assigned audit; develops process maps and documentation to support control gap analysis;
  • Assists with defining the business requirements to develop and maintain data-based analytics to test controls at the population level;
  • Executes the test steps for each assigned audit under the supervision of the Manager;
  • Assist with identifying and defining audit issues and root causes; recommends improved internal controls and business processes;
  • Provides a variety of administrative and/or technical services to support the team which may include: preparing reports, memos, documents; maintains and updates electronic and hardcopy filing systems; provides record management services
  • Develops spreadsheets, forms, and databases to input, track, store and retrieve data
  • Work with internal and external partners to collect data, respond to queries and exchange information
  • Help produce daily/weekly/monthly operational documentation and reports, as assigned
  • Provide support to staff in a variety of areas, including gathering, inputting, organizing, and interpreting data for reports/presentations/meetings/projects
  • Prepare agendas, coordinate, attend, and take minutes for daily technical/operational meetings
  • Certain travel and/or field work may occasionally be required
