About The Position

As a student scientist, you will design and conduct experiments under the guidance of our experienced Scientists. You will perform analytical and characterization techniques, for the Translational Product Development team. You will have the opportunity to work with teams comprised of scientists and non-scientists to effectively coordinate Secant Group’s research efforts. This position provides you with ample opportunities to keep abreast of innovative and novel scientific developments in the pharmaceutical industry by reading relevant literature and trialing your ideas in the lab. Primary Responsibilities Formulate various hydrophilic and hydrophobic APIs in polymers, and analyze drug release, for long-acting implantables of various geometries Formulate large molecule (peptide and protein) loaded long-acting dosage forms Analyze dissolution media containing API and polymers using HPLC Extraction of APIs from polymers for analysis on HPLC Daily runs using HPLC Use FTIR and Raman spectroscopy to determine API-polymer mixing and distribution Perform thermal analyses (DSC and TGA) and rheometry to determine API-polymer interactions Determine particle size of APIs using light scattering With guidance, select, design, and/or execute experiments, based on interpretation of previous results and understanding of known theory Contribute to innovative approaches to achieve project goals Anticipate/recognize potential problems with equipment and/or supplies, and initiate action to solve or prevent problems Perform literature review to better understand any experimental problems and how to solve them Keep detailed records of experiments and results in the laboratory notebook Present research to the R&D team at the end of co-op.
