About The Position

CNC Vertical Milling Machinist What a day looks like You clock in, open Epicor, and line up your work: pull blueprints, review setup instructions, and organize work orders. You load or select the right program for the vertical mill, verify tooling, and dial in fixtures. You’re comfortable setting up and running at least two Vertical Mills in the department, so you move confidently between machines and jobs. As parts come off the machine, you deburr them by hand or with a deburring wheel, then reach for hand measurement tools to check tolerances. If anything is off, you make savvy offsets or edit the program to bring the part back into spec. You scan parts into Epicor, log dates and job details, and perform quick changeovers when the schedule shifts. In between runs, you complete basic preventative maintenance, keep the area tidy, and handle 5S tasks so the team moves faster and safer. Measure parts with hand measurement tools to confirm tolerances and quality. Adjust tool/work offsets and edit programs when parts are out of tolerance. Scan parts into Epicor and record dates and job specifics. Perform basic preventative maintenance on Vertical Mills. Maintain a clean, safe work area and complete required 5S tasks. What you bring Team orientation and clear, constructive communication. Strong mechanical aptitude and confident blueprint reading. Ability to think abstractly and solve ambiguous problems. Flexibility to shift priorities as production needs change. Analytical, organized, and detail-focused approach.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Current Dorner employees with at least one (1) year of service may apply without a high school diploma.
  • Candidates with two (2) or fewer “Inconsistent” ratings on their most recent performance review may proceed with interviews. Candidates with three (3) or more “Inconsistent” ratings are not eligible to proceed. Any “Unsatisfactory” rating on the most recent review is disqualifying. No more than one (1) documented written warning within the past 12 months to proceed.
  • Ability to navigate CNC controls.
  • Comfort reading and editing G-code.
  • Able to lift/push/pull 40 lbs safely.
  • 2+ years of CNC operating experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, preferred.
