About The Position

The Turn/Grind Set Up Operator: CNC Operator is responsible for setting up and operating CNC turning and grinding machines to manufacture precision metal components. This role requires expertise in machining operations, equipment setup, and quality control to ensure parts meet exact specifications. The operator will work independently and collaboratively to maintain production efficiency and uphold safety and quality standards.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Minimum one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proven experience in CNC turning and grinding operations.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings and blueprints.
  • Skilled in using precision measuring instruments.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001 standards and quality control procedures.
  • Ability to work independently and in team environments.
  • Effective communication skills in one-on-one and small group settings.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate CNC turning and grinding machines to cut, shape, and form metal workpieces to precise specifications.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, process sheets, and job orders to determine machining requirements, tolerances, and tooling instructions.
  • Mount workpieces manually using chucks, faceplates, or fixtures, and position them accurately for machining.
  • Select, install, and adjust cutting tools, grinding wheels, and fixtures according to setup instructions.
  • Enter commands and offsets into CNC controls to initiate and optimize machining operations.
  • Monitor machine operations and displays to detect malfunctions or deviations from specifications.
  • Perform drilling, boring, turning, and grinding operations to close and interrelated tolerances.
  • Inspect first-run and subsequent parts using micrometers, dial gauges, calipers, and fixed gauges to ensure conformance.
  • Make necessary adjustments to feeds, speeds, tooling, and machine settings to maintain quality.
  • Replace worn or damaged cutting tools, grinding wheels, belts, and diamonds as needed.
  • Troubleshoot and adjust auto-loading mechanisms and other equipment components.
  • Perform daily inspections and preventive maintenance on machines and equipment.
  • Maintain proper fluid levels and ensure coolant or cutting oil is directed appropriately.
  • Record production, quality, and time data accurately in written or electronic formats.
  • Move heavy baskets and materials using pallet jacks or other equipment.
  • Maintain inventory logs and paperwork for finished products and scrap materials.
  • Follow all safety, housekeeping, and ISO 9001 quality standards and procedures.
  • Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and management.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned by supervisor or lead person.
