About The Position

The Swiss Programmer reports to the Manufacturing Supervisor, this position will have direct responsibility for the programming and manufacture of components within the Swiss machining department. This company is a complete product development partner that specializes in partnering with innovative companies to provide design support and process development for the medical device industry. Our extensive machining and fabricating capabilities enhance product design, prototyping, component manufacturing, and finished device assembly.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in Swiss CNC machining, with a strong background in programming and setup.
  • Proficiency in GibbsCAM or similar CAD/CAM software for Swiss CNC programming.
  • Extensive knowledge of tight tolerance machining, GD&T, and blueprint reading.
  • Experience in medical device manufacturing and familiarity with ISO 13485, GMP, and regulatory requirements.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills to diagnose and resolve machining and programming issues.
  • Leadership abilities with a passion for mentoring and training junior machinists to develop department capabilities.
  • Skilled in process optimization, tool selection, and cycle time reduction.
  • Proficient in machine math/shop math and using hand tools for maintenance and tool changes.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Program, set up, and operate Citizen L20, M32, and K16 Swiss lathes, ensuring efficient and precise machining of medical device components.
  • Utilize ESPRIT software to create and optimize programs for new and existing parts, improving cycle times and tool life.
  • Work closely with Engineering and Production teams to develop and refine manufacturing processes for increased efficiency and quality.
  • Assist with complex machine setups, including tool selection, offsets, and troubleshooting issues to maintain optimal production.
  • Lead root cause analysis and corrective actions for machining challenges, ensuring minimal downtime and improved process stability.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance on Swiss equipment to ensure consistent machine performance and longevity.
  • Perform visual and dimensional inspections using precision measurement tools (e.g., microscopes, micrometers, calipers, pin gauges, thread gauges, comparators, Micro-Vu, CMM, and vision systems) to verify conformance to specifications.
  • Collaborate with the Quality team to ensure all components meet ISO 13485 and GMP standards.
  • Mentor and train lower-level machinists, helping them develop their skills in setup, troubleshooting, and programming to strengthen the department.
  • Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives to optimize workflow, reduce scrap, and enhance overall machining efficiency.
  • Maintain accurate documentation within ERP and QMS systems, ensuring proper tracking of programs, inspections, and process changes.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety regulations, including OSHA standards and company policies on PPE and machine operation.
