  • Know how to write programs for CNC machine (includes feeds, speeds, X,Y,Z)
  • Knowledge of CNC tooling, suitability of tooling to stock being run
  • Know how to select and request proper tool holding devices
  • Know how to lubricate and perform routine maintenance and diagnostic test on CNC machines

Responsibilities

  • Adaptability of part to machine capability (O.D., length)
  • Determine suitability of stock to be run (body)
  • Check for proper tooling for the set-up
  • Write program to make part of select existing program number from console screen
  • Mount tools in tool holders
  • Load program into console
  • Insert tool parameters into console
  • Set machine on dry run
  • Make necessary adjustments on tool and reference zero settings
  • Select auto mode & single mode to determine feed rate & spindle speed for stock
  • Check quality of machined surface and blue printing specifications (dimensions)
  • Make 5 test runs through complete cycle to assess tool wear and stock machined character
  • Instruct & assist operators in productivity, efficiency and audit part dimensions and quality
  • Determine length and thickness of part & stock, considering part to be run & machine capabilities, such as sequence of functions to facilitate productivity
  • Select proper tooling and fixture
  • Mount tooling & fixtures
  • Load part, put machine on manual mode, complete 1 cycle to determine part quality/machinability
  • Select existing program or write new program and insert into console
  • Remove part and make test run of program, debug
  • Load stock & run program
  • Check finished part for quality dimensions and surface condition
