Job Scope The CNC Programmer – Swiss Turning is responsible for developing, implementing, and supporting CNC programs used to manufacture medical devices, implants, and instruments on Swiss-style CNC turning equipment. This role utilizes CAM software and/or manual programming methods during Process Development, Process Improvement, and Production to ensure user-friendly, efficient, repeatable, and compliant Swiss machining processes in a production environment. Day Shift: Monday - Thursday, 5:00am - 3:30pm

Requirements

  • Internal Candidates
  • Demonstrated high-level setup and operation competency on Swiss-style CNC turning machines within an Acumed medical device manufacturing environment.
  • Minimum of 1 year of CAM experience, including creating CNC programs from 3D models through post-processing for Swiss machines.
  • Experience developing complex CNC programs beyond standard X, Y, and Z axes, including Swiss-specific configurations such as sub-spindles, live tooling, and guide bushing applications.
  • Meets all qualifications of the CNC Programming Technician role.
  • Demonstrated advanced troubleshooting skills and in-depth programming knowledge specific to Swiss turning equipment used within an Acumed manufacturing group.
  • External Candidates
  • Minimum of 5 years of CNC machining experience, with significant experience on Swiss-style turning machines.
  • Minimum of 2 years of CAM programming experience specific to Swiss-style turning machines.
  • Experience developing complex CNC programs beyond standard X, Y, and Z axes, including Swiss-specific configurations such as sub-spindles, live tooling, and guide bushing applications.
  • Knowledge of advanced inspection techniques and measurement systems for close-tolerance Swiss-machined components.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Proven ability to work within timelines and meet production and development deadlines.

Nice To Haves

  • Medical device manufacturing.
  • Ability to generate para-metric style programs (containing but not limited to; variables, loops and trigonometry) using manual programming practices.
  • Experience with setup, operation, and programming of Citizen Swiss-style machines.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, optimize, and maintain CNC programs for Swiss-style turning machines using CAM software and/or manual programming.
  • Create and maintain production documentation, including setup sheets, tooling layouts, and process instructions specific to Swiss machining.
  • Mentor and train production machinists and technicians on Swiss turning equipment and processes.
  • Develop and refine Swiss manufacturing processes for new and existing products.
  • Participate in New Product Introduction (NPI) and Product Development teams as required.
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineers to determine machining strategies, tooling selection, operating methods, and inspection parameters for Swiss-type processes.
  • Work closely with Manufacturing and Quality Engineers to ensure tolerance, GD&T, and inspection methods are aligned, achievable, and compliant.
  • Participate in all required process validation activities, including IQ, OQ, and PQ for Swiss machining processes.
  • Support process handoff to Production by training and assisting production personnel during final process qualification.
  • Assist in training Process Development Technicians and Machinists on Swiss turning machines as needed.
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting for Swiss machining issues on the production floor, including tooling, program optimization, and process stability.
  • Drive continuous improvement of sustaining Swiss manufacturing processes related to cycle time, tool life, quality, and cost.
  • Develop prototype components on Swiss turning equipment in support of Design Engineering.
  • Interpret and work from engineering drawings, sketches, process diagrams, and verbal instructions to produce complex, close-tolerance Swiss-machined components.
  • Participation in DFM (design for manufacturing) reviews.
