Join our Sacramento, CA Rolling Stock team and put your CNC expertise to work on passenger locomotives, coaches, and light rail vehicles. A day in your role When your shift begins, you’ll power up multi-axis equipment and get hands-on with complex rail components. Under limited supervision, you’ll move from setup to finish, collaborating with engineers and manufacturing pros to deliver flawless parts. Interpret and act on technical drawings and verbal instructions; rework parts when specifications change. Set up and run precision equipment including CNC machines, CMM, FARO Arm, and milling machines. Clamp and deburr girders and truck frames to ensure clean, safe edges and surfaces. Measure girders and truck components with accuracy to confirm all tolerances are met. Maintain consistent process quality and part conformity to standards. Perform daily machine maintenance and workstation cleaning using established checklists. Troubleshoot machining and assembly challenges in partnership with engineers and production staff.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 2+ years of machining and/or fabrication experience or technical training; practical knowledge of CNC G-code programming (Sinumerik 840D is a plus!).
  • Formal training as a machining technician, machine operator, or lathe operator.
  • Fluency in blueprint reading, along with strong reading, writing, and math skills.
  • Proficiency with precision instruments: dial indicators, micrometers, calipers, bore micrometers, and gauges.
  • Physical and work environment Frequent walking; reaching; stooping; kneeling; crouching; or crawling.
  • Frequent climbing of stairs, steps, and ladders.
  • Regular work on elevated platforms and overhead tasks.
  • Occasional lifting/moving up to 40 pounds.
  • Vision needs include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
  • Comfort working in non-climate-controlled areas and, when required, in inclement weather.
