About The Position

The CNC Operator I works under the close direction of senior personnel, operating various types of CNC machines, including 2-axis lathes and 4th axis mills, to produce parts that conform to print requirements. This role involves making basic program adjustments, performing daily machine maintenance, and conducting first part inspections for all lathe and mill operations. The operator is expected to maintain a safe and healthy work environment by adhering to established standards and procedures. As the operator gains experience, they will be expected to make more complex program or tooling adjustments, update master files for future use, and mentor colleagues in machine setup and program adjustments. A fundamental understanding of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing and basic print reading is required.

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of manufacturing principals, basic shop math, and basic blueprint reading
  • Knowledge of hand tools and general inspection tools
  • Ability to read and follow work orders, set up data sheets, and measurement instructions
  • Ability to change some machine set ups (pallets, collets, etc.)
  • Can perform diagnostics, repairs, and troubleshoot basic programming and machine issues
  • Ability to change most machine set ups and update master programming and set up data sheets
  • Willing and able to train colleagues with troubleshooting and adjusting machines and programs
  • Possesses a moderate understanding of general aspects of the job

Nice To Haves

  • Computer skills (MS Office) and experience in ERP systems
  • Previous experience in production and quality control methods (ISO9001, AS9100 etc.)
  • Previous experience in Lean Manufacturing implementation and production systems
  • Previous experience in manual or CNC machining

Responsibilities

  • Works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area
  • Operate various types of CNC machines to produce parts conforming to print requirements, may include basic program adjustments to meet quality and schedule requirements
  • Maintain a safe and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures
  • Demonstrate an understanding of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing and basic print reading
  • Performs basic daily maintenance or checks for machines
  • Will make more complex program or tooling adjustments to produce conforming parts
  • Operate a 2 axis lathe and hold .0005 tolerances
  • Operate a 4th axis mill
  • Perform First Part Inspections for all lathe and mill operations
  • Mentor and assist colleagues in set ups or program adjustments
  • Will make program or set up datasheet adjustments to master files for future use
  • Other duties as necessary
