About The Position

Elmira Stamping & Manufacturing-North is currently seeking a CNC Machinist with setup and programming experience to join our sheet metal manufacturing team in Rochester, NY. This role is responsible for programming, setting up, and operating CNC machines to fabricate high-quality sheet metal components according to engineering drawings and production schedules. About Us: Elmira Stamping & Manufacturing has specialized in medium- to high-volume contract metal stamping, progressive die stamping, and CNC machining since 1970. Elmira Stamping & Manufacturing specializes in both deep-draw and progressive die stamping. We are equipped with man servo, high-speed, mechanical, and hydraulic stamping presses ranging from 30 to 400 tons. Our machines are optimized for automation with in-die contact and non-contact sensors. We are also experts in secondary put-and-take operations for parts that cannot be completed in a progressive die. Additionally, we have multiple 5-axis Emmegi XT extrusion milling centers with a bed capacity of 30 feet, plus turrets, lasers, and more. Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical certification preferred.
  • 3+ years of CNC setup and programming experience in sheet metal manufacturing.
  • Experience with CNC laser, turret punch, and/or press brake machines.
  • Proficiency with CAD/CAM software.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
  • Strong understanding of GD&T.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Create, modify, and optimize CNC programs using CAM software(e.g., Mastercam, SigmaNEST, BySoft, or similar).
  • Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and CAD files.
  • Select appropriate tooling, cutting parameters, and machine settings.
  • Perform program edits at the machine as needed.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve programming issues to maintain production efficiency.
  • Set up CNC laser cutters, turret punches, press brakes, routers, or other sheet metal fabrication equipment.
  • Install tooling, dies, fixtures, and clamps.
  • Load materials and verify correct material type and thickness.
  • Perform first-piece inspections and make necessary adjustments.
  • Ensure proper machine calibration and alignment.
  • Operate CNC equipment safely and efficiently
  • Monitor machine performance and make real time adjustments
  • Perform quality checks using calipers, micrometers, and other measuring tools
  • Maintain production records and documentation
  • Follow all safety procedures and company policies.
  • Inspect finished parts for conformance to specifications.
  • Identify and correct defects or deviations.
  • Perform routine machine maintenance and cleaning
  • Report mechanical issues to maintenance personnel.
