About The Position

Bond Optics is seeking a CNC Machining Technician I to join our precision manufacturing team in Lebanon, NH. This is an entry-level to developing technician role for candidates who want to build a career in CNC machining of optical and ceramic components. This position supports the production of precision optical components by setting up and operating CNC machining centers to perform operations such as edging, beveling, diameter generation, and profiling on glass, ceramic, and crystalline substrates. With demonstrated skill and growth, this role can advance to CNC Machining Technician II. Equipment Scope: This role operates conventional CNC machining centers (HAAS, Mori Seiki, or equivalent) configured for glass and ceramic material processing. This is not a traditional metal-cutting machining position.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to handle delicate parts carefully.
  • Ability to read and follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn.
  • Basic shop math skills including decimals, fractions, ratios, measurements, and unit conversions.

Nice To Haves

  • Any experience operating CNC machining centers (HAAS, Mori Seiki, or similar).
  • Experience machining non-metallic materials such as glass, ceramics, or composite substrates.
  • Familiarity with micrometers, calipers, indicators, or other precision inspection tools.
  • Exposure to machining drawings, blueprints, or travelers.
  • Familiarity with computers, CNC controllers, and basic data entry.

Responsibilities

  • Learn and follow standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and job travelers (manufacturing routing documents that define the process sequence for each part).
  • Assist with setup and operation of CNC machining centers (HAAS, Mori Seiki, or equivalent) for operations including: Edging and diameter generation
  • Beveling and chamfering
  • Profile machining and contouring
  • Other material removal operations on glass and ceramic substrates
  • Load, align, and secure optical and ceramic workpieces in fixtures, chucks, and holding devices.
  • Monitor machine operations during cutting cycles; identify abnormal conditions such as tool wear, chipping, breakage, or runout and escalate as needed.
  • Perform basic in-process dimensional inspection using shop-floor tools including micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, and optical comparators.
  • Read and follow basic machining drawings, blueprints, and job travelers (training provided).
  • Understand basic G-code structure and be able to read, verify, and make minor edits to CNC programs under supervision.
  • Maintain clean tools, machines, and work areas in accordance with safety and quality requirements.
  • Manage coolant systems, tooling, and consumables; support routine machine upkeep.
  • Accurately complete production logs, labels, and basic traceability documentation.
  • Escalate process issues, quality concerns, or equipment abnormalities to supervisors or lead technicians.
  • Support team goals for quality, throughput, and on-time delivery.
