This CNA Nursing Assistant position assists Registered Nurses (RNs) with the daily care of patients, including bathing, oral hygiene, feeding, activity orders, and ambulation, which may involve therapeutic assistive devices, proper positioning, range of motion, and special transferring. Responsibilities also include measuring and documenting vital signs (blood pressures, TPRs), intake and output (I&O), daily weights, and other patient data accurately in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR). The role involves purposeful rounding, communicating patient/family observations and needs to the RN, and participating in admission, transfer, and discharge processes. The assistant ensures patient call lights are accessible and answered promptly, collects specimens (urine, stool, sputum), performs point-of-care testing, and maintains competency. Additional duties include running errands, maintaining stock for nursing areas, cleaning equipment, and performing patient positioning and transporting duties requiring lifting and pushing/pulling. Tasks related to patient nutritional needs and maintaining skin integrity are also part of the role. Under RN direction, and as per site/unit requirements, the assistant may remove IVs, provide post-mortem care, and perform bladder scans. Adherence to infection prevention policies, including hand hygiene and sterile procedures, is mandatory. The role requires demonstrating knowledge and skills appropriate to the age of patients served, understanding growth and development principles, and assessing/interpreting patient status to meet age-specific needs.
