About The Position

Provides basic nursing care to patients in the medical-surgical, telemetry, intensive care and pediatric unit according to established standards and practices. Functions under the direct supervision of a nurse.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Successful completion of a Certified Nursing Assistant course
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English language in an understandable manner
  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology
  • Basic computer knowledge and skills
  • BLS certification
  • Active Nevada Certified Nursing Assistant License
  • Ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such
  • Ability to deal tactfully with personnel, patients, family, visitors, and the public
  • Ability and willingness to work harmoniously with professional and non-professional personnel

Responsibilities

  • Provides patient’s personal hygiene, assists with bedpans, urinals, backrubs, shampoos, shaves, oral care, showers, etc.
  • Provides and assists with ADLs: assists with meals and feeds patients, ambulates, turns and positions patients, provides fresh water and nourishment between meals.
  • Competently takes vital signs on adult, pediatric, and neonatal patients.
  • Performs competently during emergency, busy or otherwise stressful situations in the department.
  • Competently performs nursing aide procedures and patient care under the direction of a RN/LPN
  • Prepares patient rooms for admission.
  • Utilizes techniques of infection control, including proper hand washing and handling of linen, according to standard precautions.
  • Promptly answers patient call lights and requests.
  • Consistently obtain patient weight on admission and as ordered.
  • Collects specimens as requested.
  • Communicates pertinent information regarding changes in patient condition to the responsible RN/LPN.
  • Consistently functions within scope of practice for a Certified Nursing Assistant.
  • Completes patient charges appropriately.
  • Records all entries in EHR, documents in an informative and complete manner.
  • Demonstrates skill and accuracy in hospital computer application.
  • Documents patient care and procedures/interventions accurately and thoroughly in accordance with hospital standards.
  • Consistently records I & O.
  • Accepts the need to float when staffing dictates.
  • Supports the department by attending and constructively contributing to staff or other meetings as able/necessary.
  • Attends 75% of Staff Meetings.
  • Responsible for informing nurse managers of nursing activities, needs, problems, and unusual events.
  • Participates in stocking, sorting, and inventory of departmental supplies to ensure appropriate items are readily available for patient care needs.
  • Maintains a clean, organized and safe working environment in both patient care and clerical areas.
  • As a member of the health team will maintain harmonious relationships with unit and co-workers providing support and assistance to co-workers to ensure quality patient care.
  • Communicates clearly and tactfully with residents and families.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all patient/resident/staff information.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
