About The Position

Summit Medical Center is looking for a Certified Nursing Assistant to join our Quality Care Team. This position is available at our Edmond hospital and is a full-time AM shift. Position Summary: Assists in patient care throughout nursing areas and is responsible for the safe transport of patients via wheelchair or stretcher, dispatch services and appropriate documentation of services. Provides the services of an Observer for any patient on a patient care unit who has been assessed to require constant observation in order to maximize his/her safety. Performs general receptionist and clerical duties in order to facilitate efficient functioning of the nursing unit. The staffing of Summit Medical Center is based on a teamwork concept. Employees may be cross trained in other clinical areas and may be expected to perform duties other than their normal ones as staffing and patient needs change.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Training/equivalent experience as a nursing assistant, CNA, EMT, Medical Assistant
  • Basic Life Support required
  • Assist with care of the postoperative patient
  • CPR Certification
  • Basic Computer Knowledge
  • Attends hospital-sponsored and in-service training programs as required by department
  • Maintains CPR certification
  • Performs yearly Glucometer competency
  • Compliance with the attendance policy
  • Compliance with continuing and mandatory education programs
  • Ability to respond quickly, physically and mentally when priorities and /or the patient’s condition changes
  • Ability to read and write (legibly)
  • Ability to communicate appropriately and effectively
  • Ability to document information accurately
  • Ability to deal efficiently and effectively with a wide variety of individuals
  • Ability to understand and resolve simple problems
  • Ability to understand simple instructions
  • Ability to constantly walk, stand up to eight hours
  • Ability to frequently utilize full range of motion, including crouching, stooping, reaching, bending and twisting
  • Ability to frequently lift, pull, push with assistance of one other person, the weight of the average patient
  • Ability to see and hear and distinguish color
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks
  • Ability to function independently without constant supervision

Responsibilities

  • Observes and reports patient’s status and needs
  • Answers call lights and attends to or reports needs
  • Obtains weights, vital signs and reports results
  • Performs glucometer testing and reports results
  • Obtains specimens and transports to and sends through designated tube
  • Updates patient Intake/Output including oral intake only, measured urine output, and measured urinary catheter output after emptying
  • Assists patient with ambulation as ordered
  • Assists patient with ADLs including cleansing of perineal area and catheter
  • Assists patient with feeding/meals
  • Assists patient with elimination needs
  • Transports, transfers, moves and repositions patients
  • Makes occupied/unoccupied beds and assists with maintaining a safe, clean and orderly environment
  • Sets up simple traction
  • Assists with admissions, transfers and discharges
  • Assists with postmortem care including transport to the morgue
  • Gives patients and family members emotional support as necessary
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Maintains established center/departmental policies and procedures
  • Maintains confidentiality of patient and center related business
  • Develops and maintains an effective working relationship with patients, families, visitors and other center employees
  • Documents concisely, precisely and accurately on all records or documents as indicated by policy
  • Participates in Quality Assessment activities as directed for the continuous improvement of patient care and center business
