About The Position

Position Summary: The Certified Nursing Aide/Medication Aide - LTC at WRH assists in the provision of nursing care of the patients as directed by the a NURSE/LPN. Care skills include but are not limited to: comfort and safety measures, personal hygiene, assisting with activities of daily living, and simple nursing procedures. The MA is allowed to administer oral medications and perform treatments under the supervision of a RN/LPN.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent desired.
  • Certification from a state approved program for nursing assistant, or completion of in house certification program by the end of four months of employment.
  • Medication Aide Certification.
  • Ability to read, write, speak and understand the English language.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to deal with residents, the public and other staff in a professional manner.
  • Initial Tuberculosis (TB) test and drug screening is required by Winner Regional Health.
  • Rubella titer will also be drawn upon hire and immunization is required if no past exposure or indication of immunization.
  • Required to wear name tag provided by WRH and to follow the dress code of WRH.

Responsibilities

  • Provides timely and proper notification for absences and paid personal leave. Finds a replacement when necessary.
  • Knows emergency procedures for fire, internal/external disaster plans, codes, etc. and participates in drills.
  • Verbally supportive of Winner Regional Health and the Sanford Health Network.
  • Participates on committees and/or is involved in special projects of Winner Regional Health.
  • Provides for patient, resident, employee, and visitor safety through preventative measures. Identifies hazards and reports incidents.
  • Utilizes and adheres to appropriate precautions/techniques with hazardous chemicals, blood and body fluids, medical waste and/or equipment.
  • Satisfactory attendance at department meetings (50% attendance meets expectations).
  • Is cross-trained to other areas/positions/departments to provide assistance when needed.
  • Demonstrates operating knowledge of equipment and supplies necessary to perform assigned duties.
  • Demonstrates appropriate aseptic and hygiene techniques to prevent the spread of infection to patient, self and others.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and the skills necessary to provide age appropriate care.
  • Assists nurses and Physicians with assessments, examinations and treatments.
  • Assists in development and implementation of patient plan of care including personal hygiene, nutrition, and elimination.
  • Observes patients for reactions to treatments or any unusual conditions and records or reports adverse conditions to the nurse.
  • Assists in cost containment through the appropriate ordering and conserving of supplies and equipment. Monitors supplies and equipment.
  • Demonstrates appropriate lifting, repositioning, proper use of restraints, and moving of patients and equipment.
  • Maintains good hand washing practices before and after patient care.
  • Reports patient concerns, c/o pain and abnormal vital signs to the nurse.
  • Promotes a safe and hazard free resident care environment.
  • Willingly accepts from nurses the delegation of tasks that are within the job description and own competence level.
  • Consistently seeks clarity and/or direction from nurse when tasks or assignments are unclear, outside job description, or outside the competency level.
  • Seeks appropriate assistance when needed form healthcare team members to ensure the safe administration of patient.
  • Consistently provides nurse with feedback regarding outcomes from delegated tasks (i.e., VS, pain assessment, and activity).
  • Demonstrates appropriate independence/interdependence in the provision and documentation of patient care.
  • Accurately prepares and administers prescribed oral medications according to the Winner Regional Health policy.
  • Monitors patient condition, response to medications and appropriately documents. This includes but is not limited to: PRN medications, patient self-administration records, and psychoactive medications SE monitoring.
  • Has knowledge of medications and treatments that are not to be administered by MA.
  • Is aware of the pain management protocol and reporting responsibilities.
  • Is accountable for the medication cart keys and keeps the cart locked when not in use.
  • Is aware of documentation requirements, to include medication errors.
  • Notifies Nurse of the need for physician orders or patient complications.
