About The Position

NV5 Geospatial is actively recruiting a Cloud Engineer. Strong capabilities in designing, deploying, and maintaining GovCloud-based infrastructure across AWS and Azure, and ensuring high availability, scalability, and security for mission-critical applications are required. The Cloud Engineer will be based remotely supporting US Southern Command. US citizenship, along with the ability to successfully pass a basic background check for access to US military bases, is required for employment. While no clearance is required, a Secret of higher clearance is preferred. Work Setting: This role offers flexibility in location, with the option to work from any NV5 Regional Office or remotely from home. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, or five (5) years of equivalent experience in cloud engineering.
  • Demonstrated experience designing, deploying, and managing AWS and Azure cloud environments with a focus on security, automation, and scalability.
  • Proficiency with IAM, RBAC, Zero Trust Architecture, and cloud networking configurations such as VPC peering, subnets, VPNs and security groups.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in IaC tools like TerraForm, CloudFormation, or ARM templates, ensuring secure and scalable deployments.
  • Experience supporting ATO processes, including SSP, SAR, and POA&M, and maintaining compliance with DoD governance frameworks and NIST requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with cybersecurity teams in implementing security controls IAW FedRAMP, RMF, and DoD IL4/IL5 security mandates, while optimizing cloud resource allocation for efficiency.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize complex project tasks.
  • US citizenship, along with the ability to successfully pass a basic background check for access to US military bases, is required for employment.

Nice To Haves

  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect Associate, Microsoft Certified Azure Solutions Architect Expert, or Google Professional Cloud Architect.
  • Portuguese or Spanish language skills.
  • Experience with government IT programs and environments.
  • Active Secret or TS/SCI preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Design, deploy, and maintain secure cloud environments in AWS and Azure, ensuring compliance with DoD cloud security frameworks and best practices.
  • Configure IAM solutions, enforce RBAC, and manage cloud security groups and firewalls.
  • Optimize cloud networking configurations, including VPC peering, VPNs, and cross-domain connectivity to ensure secure and efficient cloud operations.
  • Support development of Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) solutions using TerraForm, CloudFormation, or ARM templates to automate secure cloud deployments.
  • Track and report Kubernetes and other workload-specific cloud resource usage using GovCloud-native observability tools (e.g., Azure Monitor, AWS CloudWatch, Cost Explorer).
  • Reconcile prepay or reservation usage against actual consumption and provide monthly reports on compute, storage allocation, tagging compliance, and projected costs.
  • Advise the Government on workload placement and optimization strategies across IL2, IL4, and IL5 environments to reduce cost while maintaining performance and security compliance.
  • Provision and maintain IL2, IL4, and IL5 GovCloud infrastructure using native Azure and/or AWS tools. Implement cloud-native services for monitoring, cost tracking, and compliance automation to support scalability, security, and chargeback alignment.
  • Provision and manage shared container environment and storage, ensuring secure, efficient resource allocation.
