The Cloud Architect owns the enterprise cloud strategy, architecture, and operations, with primary accountability for public cloud platforms (AWS-first), cloud governance, financial optimisation, and platform reliability. This role ensures cloud services are secure, scalable, cost-effective, and aligned to business and product priorities.

Requirements

  • Strong leadership experience in large-scale cloud environments
  • Deep expertise in AWS (other cloud experience advantageous)
  • Strong architectural, financial, and operational acumen
  • Ability to influence senior business and technology stakeholders
  • Excellent communication and executive reporting skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 10+ years in cloud engineering, architecture, or platform leadership roles
  • Proven experience leading enterprise cloud transformations

Responsibilities

  • Leads and develops global cloud engineering and platform teams
  • Owns performance management, capability development, and succession planning
  • Accountable for cloud operating budgets and vendor relationships
  • Recruits, interviews, hires, and trains new staff.
  • Oversees the daily workflow of the department.
  • Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations.
  • Handles discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy.
  • Define and execute the enterprise cloud strategy and multi-year roadmap
  • Own cloud platform architecture including landing zones, networking, security, and identity integration
  • Establish cloud governance, guardrails, and operating models (DTAP, IaC, RBAC)
  • Drive cloud financial management (FinOps), cost optimisation, and forecasting
  • Ensure platform reliability, resilience, backup, and disaster recovery readiness
  • Partner with security, architecture, and application teams to embed cloud best practices
  • Oversee cloud vendor relationships and commercial agreements
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory, audit, and data protection requirements
