About The Position

Peraton is seeking a Cloud Architect (Journeyman) to support the MODES III program supporting Military Community and Family Policy (MC&FP). In this role, the selected candidate will support design, implementation, and sustainment of cloud infrastructure components under senior architect guidance; implement IaC, assist migrations, and maintain secure cloud operations. This position is remote and requires an active Secret clearance. JOB DESCRIPTION Support design, implementation, and sustainment of cloud infrastructure components under senior architect guidance; implement IaC, assist migrations, and maintain secure cloud operations. Implement IaC and automation: author and maintain Terraform/CloudFormation templates, manage CI/CD pipeline jobs for infrastructure (CodeBuild/CodePipeline/Jenkins), and validate environment provisioning in dev/test/stage. Support container and platform operations: deploy and operate containerized workloads (EKS/ECS), automate rollouts, and assist in autoscaling, service discovery, and health checks. Assist cloud migration tasks: execute application lift/shift and refactor activities, implement network/VPN connectivity, and assist in data migration to RDS/managed services with secure transfer patterns. Implement security and compliance controls: apply hardening baselines, support STIG/SRG checks, integrate vulnerability scan outputs into issue trackers, and capture RMF evidence for artifacts. Maintain monitoring and cost controls: implement CloudWatch/ELK metrics, dashboards, alerting, and tagging schemes; assist in monthly cost/report reconciliations and rightsizing recommendations. Support backup/DR and operational runbooks: develop and test backup jobs, recovery playbooks, and participate in COOP/DR exercises. Familiar with: Terraform, CloudFormation, Ansible, EKS/Kubernetes, Helm, Docker, AWS EC2/S3/RDS, VPC design, IAM/KMS, GitLab CI/Jenkins/CodePipeline, ArgoCD/GitOps, Prometheus/Grafana, CloudWatch/CloudTrail, OpenSearch, Trivy/Checkov, Tenable/ACAS, Helm charts, disaster recovery automation, Cost Explorer/Compute Optimizer

Requirements

  • Active Secret clearance required.
  • Experience / Education: 8 years relevant experience with BS/BA degree or 6 years with MS/MA or 4 years with PhD or 12 years w/o a degree or 10 years with AS/AA
  • Certifications: This role requires a demonstration of capability within the Cyberspace IT workforce. Successful applicants must satisfy Foundational Qualification standards via an approved industry certification (e.g., A+ or Network+) or documented equivalent military/educational training as defined in the DoD 8140 Qualification Matrix.

Nice To Haves

  • AWS certifications (e.g., AWS Solutions Architect, AWS Security Specialty) or equivalent cloud certifications.
  • Experience with cloud-native data pipelines, analytics platforms, or data lake architectures.
  • Familiarity with NIST RMF, ATO processes, and DoD security compliance frameworks.
  • Hands-on experience with Kubernetes, container orchestration, and microservices architectures.
  • CompTIA Security+
  • Worklocation: remote work with the ability to travel to the NCR when required
