About The Position

The University of Colorado Sleep Center is seeking an experienced and enthusiastic leader in clinical and/or translational research to spearhead the expansion of research activity and innovation for the sleep program. Sleep-related investigations may include topics in sleep physiology, neurobiology, pharmacology, pathology, clinical diagnosis and management of sleep disorders, or health care delivery.

Requirements

• Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
• This is an open rank position and could be categorized as Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor based on experience and qualifications as indicated below:
• Assistant Professor: MD/PhD or equivalent graduate level training in sleep-related health research
• Board certification in sleep medicine
• 2-4 years clinical experience in sleep medicine
• Associate Professor: MD/PhD or equivalent graduate level training in sleep-related health research
• Board certification in sleep medicine
• 5+ years clinical experience in sleep medicine
• Current or past faculty appointment as Assistant or Associate Professor
• Professor: MD/PhD or equivalent graduate level training in sleep-related health research
• Board certification in sleep medicine
• 7+ years clinical experience in sleep medicine
• Current or past faculty appointment as Associate Professor or Professor

Nice To Haves

• Previous experience interacting with learners in graduate medical education or other graduate level learners.
• Organized, motivated leader capable of balancing own research activities with the needs and efforts of faculty, trainees, and staff
• Strong track record of conducting successful independent research
• Research leadership experience, including managing budgets and developing research center infrastructure.

Responsibilities

• The Director of Sleep Medicine Research will work collaboratively with University of Colorado faculty and Sleep Center staff to administer grant-funded research projects, and to develop and manage a research center infrastructure
• Serve as a mentor to faculty, trainees, and early career investigators in their pursuit of research activities, funding, and scholarly output
• Support and identify professional development activities for investigators and staff
• Help recruit faculty and trainees to further the academic mission of the sleep program
• Collaborate with leadership in the Sleep Medicine Fellowship Program to strengthen the academic profile of the fellowship and to support investigational activities of incoming sleep fellows
• Curriculum development, evaluation of trainee performance, scholarly mentorship, and recruitment of future fellows
• Clinical activities, including direct patient care, sleep study interpretation, and routine use of electronic medical records for patient charting and office communication
