About The Position

As a Clinical Veterinarian, under the Vet Med Park Director, you will provide diagnostic and clinical veterinary care for large animals at Vet Med Park (VMP). This includes anesthesia, diagnostic imaging, emergency medicine, herd health and surgery.

Requirements

  • A graduate of College of Veterinary Medicine accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) or having certification by the AVMA’s education commission for foreign veterinary graduates (ECFVG) or the program for the assessment of veterinary education equivalence (PAVE)
  • Three years of related experience
  • Licensed DVM in at least one state
  • State of Texas Veterinary License
  • Must have a passing score on the North American Veterinary Licensing Examination (NAVLE) and the Texas State Board examination
  • DVM, Large animal medicine and surgical experience
  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others

Nice To Haves

  • 3 years of large animal clinical medicine and surgery in a private practice or academic setting
  • 1-2 years teaching experience
  • Research experience
  • Proof of board-certification in relevant specialty, if applicable

Responsibilities

  • Clinical Management: Provide veterinary care to all research and teaching animals (including on call, after hours, holidays, and weekends).
  • Coordinate live animal use with faculty and staff for 1-3 VM laboratories.
  • Assist with management of the teaching herds to provide adequate numbers of animals and meet instructor's specific needs.
  • Assist the Director and Manager with all compliance and regulatory requirements.
  • Generate SOP's for VMP and check and edit them yearly.
  • Write AUP's, grants, cost estimates, and proposal letters for investigators and new projects.
  • Plan, coordinate and communicate with multiple investigators and their staff.
  • Perform a variety of surgeries for a various species.
  • Maintain and be the principal investigator for teaching and research AUP's.
  • Generate records for all procedures, treatments, diagnostics, and research activities.
  • Instruction: Supervise the veterinary technician team and veterinary technician student workers.
  • Train and work with VMP staff, student workers, PI's and their staff on various procedures, protocols, and SOP's.
  • Provide instruction to veterinary students, veterinary technicians, residents and interns in lectures, laboratories and in a clinical setting.
