The Ophthalmic Technician participates in the care of patients in a clinic setting. As an Ophthalmic Technician, you will greet patients and explain what they should expect during their appointment. An Ophthalmic Technician escorts the patient to an exam room and performs diagnostic ophthalmic tests and procedures prior to the physician seeing them, such as visual acuity, tonometry, and lensometry. The role assures appropriate notes and updates patient charts/records accurately. It also involves maintaining the clinic environment, including sterilization cleaning. The schedule for this position is Monday, Thursday, and Friday from 7:30 AM to 5:00 PM, and Tuesday and Wednesday from 7:30 AM to 6:30 PM, rotated amongst staff. Key responsibilities include interacting with patients to gather information for electronic medical records, documenting patient chief complaints, present illnesses, and past medical history, conducting eye function tests, assisting with minor surgical procedures and laser treatments, educating patients on medication and post-operative care, scribing for physicians, and maintaining patient confidentiality.
