About The Position

Working under the supervision of attending physicians, the Clinical Fellow handles more advanced and specialized cases, and provides direct patient care while completing advanced training under non accredited programs in their specific medical or health discipline to gain specialized skills and experience. This role is also involved in non-clinical activities such as research, quality improvement, and teaching.

Requirements

• Graduate of an Institution certified by the Council of Social Work Education with a Master's degree in Social Work.
• Proof of passing the ASWB exam required at time of application
• Proven clinical experience in a relevant specialty.
• (LMSW) LIC MASTER SOCIAL WORKER by the Texas State Board of Social Work Examiners.
• LMSW licensure required by hire date.

Nice To Haves

• 1-2 years of experience in child and family social work services (internships included)
• 1-2 years of experience in pediatric inpatient and outpatient mental health settings
• Knowledge of child and family mental health community resources
• Desire to learn and welcome training, structured feedback, and supervisory direction

Responsibilities

• Uphold NASW Code of Ethics and NASW Core Competencies of Practice Uphold federal, state, local, and institutional regulations, policies, and procedures
• Performs psycho-social assessment, psychotherapeutic intervention, and treatment for individuals, groups, and family systems under the supervision of the BHEC-clinical supervisor and clinical site directors
• Effectively communicate and collaborate with patients and family members regarding the diagnosis, treatment, and outcome plans.
• Attend and actively participate in weekly didactic training and supervision sessions
• Provide written evaluation and feedback relative to clinical learning goals and outcomes
• Performs social work assessment and crisis intervention for patients and family members presenting to clinical fellowship rotation sites
• Anticipates patient’s and/or patient’s family needs and expectations and uses these with assessment to help develop appropriate care plans for the patient.
• In collaboration with the clinical supervisor, preceptor, and/or clinical team on-call, identifies psychiatric emergencies.
• Assesses the potential for self-harm/suicidal ideation and coordinates voluntary and involuntary treatment/commitment procedures.
• Works collaboratively with psychiatric multidisciplinary team, stakeholders, and assigned supervisors to develop psychodynamic interventions and treatment for children, adolescents, emergent youth, adults, and family systems
• Assists clinical staff in evaluation and stabilization of patients, as needed
• Facilitates admission and transfer processes to appropriate facilities, as indicated.
• Identifies psychosocial-emotional risk factors that may increase barriers to mental health treatment, including but not limited to the following risk factors such as suspected abuse, neglect, trauma, interpersonal violence, behavioral health concerns, houselessness, food insecurity, and limited resources, etc.
• Provides psycho-education to patient’s and/or patient’s families.
• Demonstrates effective communication with diverse populations
• Refers patients to community programs and resources as indicated to assist the patient in meeting their mental health care needs
• Maintains timely documentation; consistently meets departmental standards
• Serves as patient and/or family advocate.
• Responds to patient’s and/or patient’s family’s complaints and reports them to supervisor.
• Utilizes chain of command to resolve patient, operational, or personal work-related problems.
• Maintains HIPPA compliance and privacy of all patients.
• Maintains consistent attendance and adheres to established schedules to support patient care and team operations.
• Accesses only medical records for patients that are assigned Acts as a resource for the department for complicated mental health processes as related to Order of Protective Custody (OPC) and Apprehension by Police Officer without Warrant (APOWW).
• Performs other duties as assigned.
