About The Position

The Clinical Services Assistant Director performs high level, executive tasks that involve providing direction and coordination of a clinical service area to include surveillance, prevention, education and primary care for the Jefferson County Department of Health in its eight primary care clinics. Individuals in this role are required to guide and direct staff in achieving short- and long-term goals as they relate to project management within their assigned area. The Clinical Services Assistant Director is responsible for maintaining agency standards, protocols, policies and procedures. This individual is also responsible for preparing, monitoring and administering a departmental budget. The Clinical Services Assistant Director performs under the administrative direction of the Health Services Manager or a Medical Director, and their work is reviewed for program efficiency and effectiveness.

Requirements

  • Driver's license.
  • Current license to practice nursing as a Registered Nurse in the State of Alabama or in a state that has a reciprocity agreement with the State of Alabama/Alabama Board of Nursing (e.g., Multistate Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact “eNLC”).
  • Bachelor's degree in nursing from an accredited college or university.
  • Post-educational work experience as a Registered Nurse in a clinical setting.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience managing/administering a clinical program (e.g., quality improvement, infection control, outpatient clinic).
  • Experience working in an outpatient or ambulatory care center.
  • Experience working as lead worker or supervisor.
  • Experience with budget development and administration.
  • Degree in Public Health (Master’s or Bachelor’s level).
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certification (CPR).

Responsibilities

  • Prepares, monitors, and administers departmental or organizational budget by reviewing spending trends, expenditure reports, analyzing financial data and ensuring expenditures are within annual budgetary limits.
  • Addresses customer issues by investigating complaints, questions and concerns, providing relevant information to resolve the issue and documenting the incident in order to provide effective service for the clinic.
  • Monitors and provides direct patient care to children in an outpatient setting by conducting patient examinations, reviewing medical charts, administering treatments, counseling patients and parents/guardians, and updating patient charts in order to provide quality care to patients.
  • Engages in activities designed to ensure professional development, awareness of developments in the field, and knowledge of relevant practices, rules, laws, policies, and/or guidelines.
  • Manages agency projects and oversees implementation of projects and programs in accordance with state and federal guidelines by reviewing information, training and monitoring staff and providing relevant information in order to keep the programs are on track and goal and regulation oriented.
  • Maintains the standards of agency policies, procedures, and protocols by reviewing policies and procedures with staff, identifying any changes or additions that need to be made, drafting new policies, ensuring policies and procedures are appropriate, and communicating new policies and procedures with staff.
  • Supervises staff by assigning and distributing work, directing staff in their job duties, monitoring progress of work, providing feedback and/or training.
