About The Position

The position has the responsibility for overseeing and facilitating staff in accordance with policies, procedures, industry standards of practice, the Joint Commission (TJC) standards, and per direction of the management team. This individual assists in coordinating scrub and circulator roles and assists staff as needed. Oversees the flow of the daily surgery schedule, problem solving during daily operation of the department, and managing projects as assigned by the department management team. Maintains current Physician Block Time, optimally schedules daily surgeries and procedures, and collaborates with the physicians. Coordinates scheduling of resident/fellow surgeries with appropriate physicians. Works collaboratively with materials management ensuring items and equipment are ready and available for surgery. Review daily surgical schedules and adjusts as necessary to ensure most efficient resources including physicians, nurses, OR time and rooms. The position within the scope of licensure, implements the nursing process to include the following: assess patient and family needs; develop a plan of care based on assessment; coordinate or perform implementation of the plan of care; and review and evaluate the effectiveness. The position also ensures the physiological, psychosocial, safety, learning, rehabilitative, spiritual, cultural and self care needs of patients and their families are met. Reviews with patients all surgery instructions and necessary forms for completion. Maintains surgical services audits. Performs as employee health record (EHR) super user/ downtime specialist. Acts as departmental liaison and facilitates staff member computer/password needs. Coordinates internal and external training sessions. Provides back-up coverage for staffing needs.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
  • RN-Registered Nurse of California
  • BLS-Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider
  • ACLS-Advanced Cardiac Life Support
  • PALS-Pediatric Advanced Life Support
  • 5 years recent relevant experience
  • Demonstrated clinical competency in OR Setting, at a minimum experience of at least 3 years.
  • Minimum experience of two years in a leadership role.
  • Demonstrated competency in the fundamentals of nursing and OR Circulator required.
  • Demonstrated effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Basic knowledge of unit specific age criteria for patient population is required.
  • Valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification "for health care provider".
  • Self-directed in coordinating the care plan for patient care delivery.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the performance standards of other team members
  • Demonstrate skills in delegation, leadership, and team management concepts
  • Demonstrates expertise in using EHR in surgical services.
  • Independently practices and prioritizes multiple demands in an ever-changing environment.
  • Good interpersonal, communication (both oral and written) and teamwork skills are required.
