Graduate Medical Education trainees receive supervision consistent with national standards.

Requirements

• M.D. (or equivalent) from an approved LCME medical school.

Responsibilities

• Participate in ethical, safe, high quality, competent, cost effective, and compassionate patient care, under the supervision of the faculty, commensurate with their demonstrated competence, level of advancement and responsibilities.
• Demonstrate competency in patient care, medical knowledge, and practice based learning and improvement, interpersonal and communication skills, professionalism, and systems based practice.
• Respect patient's rights.
• Document patient care in the medical record in a timely fashion as per training site policy.
• Develop an understanding of ethical, socioeconomic and medical/legal issues that affect graduate medical education and the practice of medicine, and learn cost containment measures in the provision of patient care.
• Participate fully in the educational and scholarly activities of the program and, as required, assume responsibility for teaching and supervising other residents and students.
• Develop skills to be effective life-long learners including developing a personal program of self-study and professional growth with guidance from the faculty.
• Participate in institutional, departmental, and program activities involving performance improvement and patient care review.
• Recognize the need for protection of human subjects when conducting research through compliance with IRB policies, procedures, and education.
• Participate in the evaluation of faculty, didactics, program, and program director as requested.
• Adhere to the program's call schedule and schedule of assignment, and report duty hours in a timely and accurate manner.
• Participate and cooperate in and with the Graduate Medical Education office, the Graduate Medical Education Committee, and the Designated Institutional Official to enhance the medical educational experience.
• Comply with the appropriate licensure requirements of the Texas Medical Board and the laws of the State of Texas and of the United States.
• Perform all duties in accordance with the established practices, procedures and policies of the institution, its programs, clinical departments and other institutions to which the resident/fellow is assigned.
