About The Position

Job Summary The post graduate year 1 (PGY-1) pharmacy residency is a one year period of transition from student to independent practitioner. The post graduate year 2 (PGY-2) pharmacy residency is a one year period of transition from general residency trained pharmacist to clinical pharmacist with a specific area of expertise. The residency experience is designed to accelerate 3-5 years of experience into one residency year. Managed care pharmacists are responsible for ensuring patient access to appropriate and cost-effective medication therapies. Pharmacists in this role support a variety of services including developing and implementing evidence-based clinical programs and quality-oriented drug management services, instituting practices to ensure patient safety, communicating and collaborating with patients, prescribers, pharmacists, internal and external clients, contributing to the design of pharmacy benefits, managing quality and cost-effectiveness, and involvement in the medication distribution process in the managed care setting.

Requirements

  • Doctorate Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an accredited College of Pharmacy
  • LIC-Clinical Pharmacist - STATE_MI State of Michigan 120 Days Or LIC-Clinical Pharmacist - STATE_OTHR State Other than Michigan 120 Days

Responsibilities

  • Uses clinical expertise to make coverage determinations and ensure adherence to prior authorization protocols, formulary status, medical necessity and contract criteria.
  • Attends all required residency meetings and functions as outlined in the Pharmacy Residency Manual.
  • Completes project requirements as outlined in the Pharmacy Residency Manual.
  • Complies with the staffing commitment as outlined in the Pharmacy Residency Manual.
  • Engages in continuous study of the entire professional field to maintain the professional competence, knowledge, and skills necessary for satisfactory performance of all assigned responsibilities.
  • Completes required continuous training and education, including department and Spectrum Health specific requirements on a timely basis.
  • Analyzes pharmacy and medical spend data (total cost of care, drug and medical trends) and coordinates the development of appropriate use standards, prior authorization protocols, and guidelines.
  • Ensures that required documentation for activities within areas of responsibility is performed in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Ensures that services are provided in accordance with state and Federal regulations, organizational policy, and accreditation/compliance requirements.
