About The Position

The perfusionist operates extracorporeal circulation equipment during any medical situation where it is necessary to support or temporarily replace the patient’s circulatory or respiratory function. The perfusionist is knowledgeable concerning the variety of equipment available to perform extracorporeal circulation and ancillary functions; and is responsible, in consultation with the physician, for selecting the appropriate techniques and equipment to be used. Team/Schedule Information: Current team of 14 perfusionists, looking for our 15th team member. Average call amount [for adult perfusionists] is about 6 total days/month. (includes 2call, 1call, etc.) Rotating schedule including a mix of morning shifts, afternoon shifts, night shifts, call/weekends/holidays, etc. Post call days are given after primary call shifts. 24/7 in-house rotating perfusion Rounder coverage. Day rounder shifts are 7a-7p. (about 2 weekday shifts/month) Night rounder shifts are 7p-7a. (week off with each night rotation) Night rotation schedule = ON Fri-Mon, OFF Tue-Mon, ON Tue-Thu, OFF Fri-Sun. (average is 5-6 night rotations/year) In-house rounder often helps reduce call in amounts and duration for call people. Rounder will do cannulations/changeouts, oversee clinical management and support the ECMO specialists, and facilitate a variety of other ECMO needs. Rounder also provides backup to the OR, helps perfusion coworkers, and performs other tasks as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an approved Perfusion Training program OR a Bachelor’s Degree with certification in perfusion technology (Required).
  • Eligible for Certification by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion (Required)
  • Licensure with the State of Maryland, specific as a Perfusionist (Required)
  • Current CPR Certification (Required)

  • Master’s Preferred.
