About The Position

The University of Iowa Health Care department of Food & Nutrition Services is seeking an Assistant Director. The Clinical, Food and Nutrition Assistant Director plans, directs and coordinates the administrative and operational activities for clinical nutrition services including inpatient and outpatient clinical dietitians. Reports directly to the Associate Director in any activities of the University or Hospital as assigned, but not limited to this description. Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Dietetics, Food Service Management, Nutrition or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Considerable clinical dietetics experience (3-5 years) required
  • Registration by the Commission on Dietetic Registration is required.
  • Licensure by the State of Iowa required.
  • Experience work in an Electronic Medical Record (EMR) required.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Dietetics, Food Service Management, Nutrition or a related field.
  • Management experiences is desired.
  • Experience with EPIC preferred.
  • Membership in the Academy of Nutrition

Responsibilities

  • Directs and supervises clinical operations and programs and complies with all institutional and hospital standards, policies, contracts and programs.
  • Responsible for attaining clinical operating budgets and participates in the formulation of budget.
  • Adheres to budgeted FTE’s at or below approved level for current fiscal year.
  • Responsible for a high level of customer satisfaction and public relations with client, patients, staff, purveyors and community.
  • Responsible for compliance and institutional and hospital operating standards and programs.
  • Responsible for the development of job descriptions and performance plans for all staff.
  • Conducts continuing analysis of area operations and recommends any operational changes to the Associate Director.
  • Actively participates in tray assessments and patient satisfaction surveys on patient floor with other members of management.
  • Ensures customer/patient satisfaction is at the highest possible level.
  • Ensures all quality and service standards are met and comply with regulatory agencies.
  • Establishes and maintains effective communication.
  • Responsible for the compliance with all University of Iowa Healthcare Human Resource policies and procedures by all employees within the department.
  • Demonstrates and promotes University of Iowa Healthcare values and management philosophy; represents University of Iowa Healthcare ethically at all times.
  • Participates actively on committees and task forces and provides feedback to the department.
  • Coaches and counsels’ employees as needed; provides continuous feedback on performance and applies appropriate development tools to assist in individual growth.
  • Acts as preceptor to Masters of Clinical Nutrition students.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
