About The Position

The Clinical Informatics Specialist serves as the strategic and clinical liaison for health IT integration efforts. They act as a change agent working with clinician and operational leadership teams in the identification, development, planning, implementation, and measurement of overall health IT integration strategies to support quality patient care, clinician efficiency, and professional practice. Combines knowledge of evidence-based practice, informatics concepts, and change management to effectively address the information and knowledge needs of healthcare professionals and patients/families to promote safe, effective, and efficient use of health IT in the clinical settings.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in nursing required.
  • Experience: Minimum of five years of acute care nursing.
  • In depth understanding of clinical systems assisting with system implementation, design, upgrades and maintenance activities.
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office products and technologies supporting business or patient care.
  • Experience with project team leadership, workplans, and issues management.
  • Strong systems, problem solving, analytical skills and creative thinking skills.
  • Current CT RN License.
  • Knowledge: Electronic Health Record systems and related supporting technologies.
  • Healthcare process and workflows, with a keen understanding of vital handoff points and organizational stakeholders.
  • Project Management methodologies and processes.
  • Change Management methodologies and processes.
  • Skills: Strong analytical skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, resourceful, responsive with strong follow through.

Nice To Haves

  • Education: Graduate Degree in nursing or informatics preferred.
  • Experience: 1-2 Years Epic experience.
  • 1-2 Years’ Experience with Elsevier Care Plans.
  • 1-2 Years GetWell Network experience.
  • Nursing Informatics Certification preferred but must obtain within 5 years of hire. (NI-BC).

Responsibilities

  • Maintains relationships with key business partners and other industry leaders in order to leverage best practices, evaluate emerging technologies, and distribute knowledge internally to inform plans.
  • Works with vendors to proactively strategize on the development and/or enhancement of clinical information system solutions to meet organizational strategic goals.
  • Works with clinical and IT Team Members and leaders in evaluating the effectiveness of technologies and workflows that impact clinical users.
  • Promotes advancement of clinical systems capable of reporting variables to evaluate patient outcomes, to support research, and operational improvement across the continuum of care
  • Collaborates with Education colleagues in the instructional design and content specification of training tools for nursing/clinician staff.
  • Participates in IT Governance designed to identify, prioritize, and develop solutions for clinical problems and opportunities amenable to health information technology.
  • Mentors Nursing Informatics Council guiding members in review of requests, decision making and implementation of change.
  • Participates in ongoing data-driven oversight of the use of health information technology systems for the purposes of improving adoption, usability and effectiveness.
  • Coordinates and collaborates with administrative teams, clinical leaders, information technology, financial services and quality/regulatory/risk management amongst others in the development of high quality and innovative clinical information systems that assist the clinician in the delivery of care.
  • Optimizes clinical IT systems to promote the coordination and integration of standardized care practices across all clinical departments for quality patient care.
  • Promotes the use of health IT to improve patient safety by designing, developing, and implementing clinical decision support tools.
  • Evaluates the impact of public policy initiatives on health IT systems and bridges new care delivery models into clinical practice
  • Identifies and implements optimizations to improve the interoperability of patient data across the continuum of care.
  • Collaborates with administration, clinicians, and IT leaders to translate clinician requirements into coordinated specifications for new clinical solutions.
  • Identifies and implements IT solutions to advance the clinicians ability to provide patient and family centered care.
