Clinical Nurse II – Duke Health Nephrology Engagement Center    Job Location: 4825 Creekstone Drive, Durham, NC   Job Summary: We are seeking a CLINICAL NURSE II in Nephrology at the Duke Health Engagement Center to be an integral member of the healthcare team and provide direct and indirect care to patients. In this role, you will provide both direct and indirect patient care through clinical telephone triage, inbasket management, and coordination of prescription medication needs—including refills and prior authorizations. Requirements

  • Work requires graduation from an accredited BSN or Associate's Degree in Nursing or Nursing Diploma program.
  • All registered nurses without a Bachelor's degree in Nursing (or higher) will be required to enroll in an appropriate BSN program within two years of their start date and to complete the program within seven years of their start date.
  • You have a minimum of 1 year nursing experience.
  • Must have current or compact RN licensure in the state of North Carolina. BLS required.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct clinical telephone triage, utilizing professional nursing judgment to assess patient needs, prioritize care, and support appropriate disposition.
  • Plan, provide, and document professional nursing care using the nursing process in alignment with physician orders, policies, and evidence‑based standards.
  • Manage and respond to inbasket clinical messages, coordinating follow‑up care and communication with patients and providers.
  • Support medication management workflows including refill coordination and prescription prior authorization processing.
  • Delegate tasks and oversee the work of licensed and unlicensed team members as appropriate.
  • Engage in continuous professional development, maintaining required competencies and seeking opportunities to grow.
  • Serve as a preceptor, contributing to the development of peers, students, and new hires.
  • Participate in clinical and operational performance improvement initiatives that enhance patient experience, quality, and workflow efficiency.
  • Perform related duties essential to the delivery of safe and effective patient care.
