About The Position

The Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) II performs a variety of technical procedures in one or more sections of the clinical laboratory, such as hematology, microbiology, chemistry, immunology, and transfusion medicine. The CLS II is responsible for conducting complex laboratory tests, analyzing results, ensuring quality control, maintaining lab equipment, and adhering to established safety standards. This role involves advanced problem-solving, collaboration with healthcare teams, and mentoring less experienced staff.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, or a related field.
  • Licensure: Valid state license (if applicable) and certification as a CLS (e.g., ASCP, AMT).
  • Experience: Minimum of 2–3 years of experience as a CLS, with proficiency in multiple areas of laboratory testing.
  • Skills and Competencies:
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of laboratory techniques and protocols.
  • Proficiency in using laboratory information systems and automated equipment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high-quality standards.

Responsibilities

  • Laboratory Testing and Analysis:
  • Conduct complex diagnostic tests and procedures accurately and efficiently.
  • Operate and maintain a wide range of laboratory instruments and equipment.
  • Interpret and validate test results; ensure accuracy and reproducibility.
  • Quality Control and Compliance:
  • Perform and document quality control and quality assurance activities.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards (e.g., CLIA, CAP, and state regulations).
  • Troubleshoot technical issues and implement corrective actions.
  • Collaboration and Communication:
  • Work closely with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare providers to provide timely and accurate lab results.
  • Communicate critical findings and test delays promptly.
  • Provide guidance and training to junior staff and laboratory assistants.
  • Data Management:
  • Enter and verify test results in the laboratory information system (LIS).
  • Maintain accurate records of procedures and results in compliance with organizational policies.
  • Safety and Maintenance:
  • Follow strict safety protocols to prevent contamination and ensure a safe working environment.
  • Calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment regularly.
  • Manage inventory and ensure the availability of necessary supplies.
