Evening - 08 Hour (United States of America) This is a Stanford Health Care Tri-Valley job. A Brief Overview The Clinical Laboratory Scientists (CLS) performs a wide range of medical laboratory tests used to diagnose, treat and prevent disease. Using technical knowledge and a theoretical understanding of the basis of the tests, records and validates the accuracy and quality of results to ensure conformity to specifications. Understands and applies the correct control measures and protocols in cases of abnormal results, escalating discrepancies as appropriate. Communicates with clinical staff and medical staff when results are critical or require urgent attention. Guides, trains and may provide mentoring to students and/or technical staff as appropriate. Performs clinical laboratory tests of varying complexity using standard procedures examining specimens for the purpose of providing information for the diagnosis, prevention, or treatment of disease. Determines suitability of specimen for analysis, following established procedures and policies. Accurately performs and completes laboratory analysis on body fluids in accordance with laboratory protocols and policies. Proficiency in laboratory tests for specialty assigned which may include chemistry, hematology, coagulation, urinalysis, blood bank, and microbiology. Adheres to all safety/health and state/federal regulatory requirements. Records and reports test results. Reviews results for accuracy and precision and maintains testing turn-around-time standards for all categories of testing. When testing is delayed communicates approximate turn-around-time to appropriate personnel. Assures accurate results performing confirmatory tests as appropriate and correlating laboratory and patient data to verify results. Interprets laboratory results considering controls and published standards. Communicates with physician, nursing staff and clients and clearly responds to inquiries and document interactions including specimen and test requirements and outcome of results. Communicates critical results to the person responsive for the care of the patient. Escalating issues as appropriate. Performs maintenance and function checks on analytical equipment and perform operational checks necessary for proper test performance to assure accurate and reliable test results and reporting. Performs calibration as needed, runs quality control samples as scheduled and evaluates results. Using technical knowledge and theoretical understanding of the basis of tests, records and analyzes test results to validate accuracy, quality and conformity to specifications. Strives to resolve problems related to clinical issues, equipment or testing by initiating research utilizing available reference material. Reports and/or escalates problems to management as appropriate. Employee must perform all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the C-I-CARE Standards of the Hospital. Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree Required
  • 3+ years to 5 years of progressively responsible and directly related work experience Required
  • Provides mentorship and training to support performance development for CLSs and MLTs
  • Schedules staff work assignments, sets appropriate priorities when staff is limited
  • Recommends solutions to areas of need relative to workflow issues and operation challenges
  • CLS required
