About The Position

The Division of Behavioral Health and Recovery is seeking to hire a Clinical Lab Phlebotomist for the Madden Mental Health Center located in Hines, Illinois to perform technical phlebotomy duties for a laboratory subject to the provisions of the Illinois Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act. Responsible for obtaining blood samples, processing and shipment of same to reference laboratory via courier service. Draws blood samples from patients in accordance with established policies. Labels samples acquired. Prepares samples for testing and/or transportation.

Requirements

  • Requires education and experience equivalent to completion of high school, supplemented by one (1) year's experience in the practice of phlebotomy.
  • Requires the ability to complete a training program accredited by the National Accrediting Agency of Clinical Laboratory services of the American Society of Clinical Pathologist and to pass the exam and be certified (CPT) within 60 days of employment.
  • Requires the ability to attend and pass all mandatory training.
  • Requires the ability to work after business hours, weekends and holidays.
  • Requires the ability to utilize office equipment, including personal computers.
  • Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.
  • Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.

Responsibilities

  • Per physicians orders, performs technical phlebotomy duties for a laboratory subject to the provisions of the Illinois Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act.
  • Enters orders received from units into both the state computer system and the reference laboratory's internet program (4Medica) to generate specimen labels and requisitions to accompany the specimens.
  • Operates centrifuge to spin whole blood samples to obtain separation of blood into is component parts.
  • Separates result reports and distributes to appropriate units, maintaining a copy for the lab file.
  • Documents Stat/Critical labs when applicable on tracking form.
  • Follows-up with e-mail and informs lab of incorrect ID numbers/change in demographics and makes appropriate corrections or forwards to supervisor.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
