About The Position

The Clinical Laboratory Supervisor oversees daily laboratory operations and staff to ensure accurate, efficient, and high-quality testing that supports optimal patient care. This role provides leadership, technical expertise, and guidance to laboratory personnel, serving as the primary point of contact for operational or clinical inquiries. The Supervisor ensures compliance with all regulatory standards, implements and maintains laboratory policies and procedures, and promotes continuous improvement in workflow, quality, and safety. Responsibilities include managing staffing and scheduling, maintaining and calibrating laboratory equipment, reviewing and validating test results, and ensuring adequate inventory of materials and reagents. Through effective leadership and collaboration, the Clinical Laboratory Supervisor ensures the laboratory operates smoothly, safely, and in alignment with organizational and patient care goals.

Requirements

  • Compassionate and caring bedside manner.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to balance competing priorities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication.
  • Minimum of a Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology, Chemistry or Biology preferred or equivalent experience.
  • BLS Certificate required.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification/Licensure as a Medical Lab Technologist by ASCP(American Society for Clinical Pathology) or higher strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees hiring, onboarding, training, scheduling, performance reviews, and disciplinary actions for Clinical Lab Medical Assistants.
  • Ensures staff competency through observation, documentation, and ongoing coaching.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of testing methods, instrumentation, and laboratory technologies.
  • Consults on unusual test results and ensures accurate reporting of medical or testing errors.
  • Communicates critical lab values promptly to providers and care teams.
  • Manages reagent preparation, quality assurance, calibrations, and preventive maintenance.
  • Troubleshoots equipment issues and out-of-range results; validates and evaluates new instruments.
  • Maintains adequate supplies, organized workspaces, and compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
  • Oversees post-analytic processes, including report distribution and specimen management.
  • Participates in proficiency testing, process improvement initiatives, and budget discussions.
  • Writes and updates laboratory policies, procedures, and training documentation.
  • Performs duties of a Clinical Lab Medical Assistant as needed.
