About The Position

The Clinical Investigator will secure funding and carry out research projects under the direction of one or more of the Research Program Directors. This role involves supervising research assistants and collaborating with grants administration staff to ensure compliance with research regulations and institutional standards for funded research. The Clinical Investigator will contribute to the overall strategic direction for the research program, aiming to make significant contributions to the recovery and quality of life for persons with disabilities, thereby enhancing TIRR’s national leadership in clinical care, research, training, and technical assistance.

Requirements

  • Doctoral degree or Medical degree, required.
  • Minimum three (3) years of experience as an investigator.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Prior experience in leading research projects.
  • Knowledge of applicable funding mechanisms and sources.
  • Ability to lead a project team and form collaborative relationships.
  • Strong and/or growing professional reputation in one or more areas of research.

Nice To Haves

  • Track record of applying for and receiving federal funding for research, training, and/or technical assistance activities is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Writes and submits fundable grant applications to secure funding for program activities.
  • Directs research assistants and successfully completes projects.
  • Publishes research findings in scholarly journals as appropriate.
  • Contributes to the strategic plan for TIRR research.
  • Develops collaborative relationships within the Texas Medical Center and with institutions and individuals outside the TMC.
  • Complies with TIRR Research Administration Policies and Procedures and adheres to all MHHS and TIRR policies.
  • Contributes to TIRR’s reputation of excellence in patient care, rehabilitation research, training, technical assistance, and materials development.
  • Complies with applicable federal, HIPAA, and human subjects protection guidelines and ensures that program staff comply with these guidelines.
  • Informs TIRR non-program staff employees about activities and provides opportunities for involvement in program activities as appropriate.
  • Keeps current with information and directives disseminated through Memorial Hermann communications.
  • Provides excellent customer service to project participants and other customers and ensures that all program staff do as well.
  • Maintains compliance with relevant federal regulations and research practices.
  • Ensures safety of program participants and employees.
  • Completes mandatory continuing education.
  • Ensures safe care to patients, staff and visitors; adheres to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary specifications including time management, supply management, productivity and quality of service.
  • Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skills competency; supports department-based goals which contribute to the success of the organization; serves as preceptor, mentor and resource to less experienced staff.
  • Demonstrates commitment to caring for every member of our community by creating compassionate and personalized experiences.
