About The Position

NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk is a 306-bed medical center, providing care to residents of eastern Long Island. The hospital facility is home to the Knapp Cardiac Care Center—an advanced heart disease diagnostic and treatment facility—as well as a modern ambulatory surgical pavilion with specialized services including women's imaging, a sleep laboratory, and bariatric surgery. Our Provisional Level 2 Trauma Center delivers comprehensive and specialized care for patients with traumatic injuries. The Stroke Center at NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk is designated by the New York State Department of Health as a Primary Stroke Center, with expert neurologists available to provide treatment 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Additionally, NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk has multiple outpatient sites, including an outpatient wound care center, a hemodialysis center, and various primary care and specialty offices. We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Clinical Instructor - Full Time, Days - NSG-In Service - 08:00 AM - 04:00 PM. The Clinical Instructor will assume a major role in the orientation of new nursing personnel. They is responsible for the orientation process from the classroom to the clinical area by working with the orientee and the preceptor. The roles of the Clinical Instructor are of educator, facilitator, change agent, consultant, researcher and leader. The roles emerge from the ANA Scope and Standard of Practice for Nursing Professional Development.

Requirements

  • Current license to practice professional nursing in New York State.
  • Bachelors or BSN required
  • 5+ years progressively more responsible nursing acute care experience.
  • BLS and ACLS required.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of relevant educational content, including knowledge of teaching and learning theories, principles of adult education, testing, measurement and evaluation.
  • Ability to communicate with all levels of staff.
  • Demonstrates high level computer skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Masters Degree preferred.

Responsibilities

  • The Clinical Instructor collects pertinent information related to potential educational needs of the nurse
  • Pertinent data is collected using a variety of appropriate assessment techniques and instruments including but not limited to focus groups, questionnaires evaluations of past programs and analysis of trends.
  • Data is collected from a variety of sources including, but not limited to the nurse, professional organizations, consumers, nursing experts, trends in the health care system and advances in treatment and technology.
  • The target audience and learner needs are derived from the assessment data
  • The Clinical Instructor identifies the general purpose and educational objectives for each learning activity.
  • General-purpose statements and educational objectives are determined from the learners identified needs.
  • Educational objectives are attainable in relation to the resources available to the learner.
  • Educational objectives incorporate the principles of adult learning.
  • The Clinical Instructor identifies and partners with content experts to develop activities to facilitate learners achievement of the educational objectives.
  • The outline of the content is documented.
  • Adult learning principles are reflected in planning.
  • The Clinical Instructor ensures that the planned educational activities are implemented.
  • The educational activity is implemented in a timely and appropriate manner.
  • The educational activity is consistent with the planned general purpose, educational objectives and content outline.
  • The Clinical Instructor conducts a comprehensive evaluation of the educational activity.
  • Evaluation is systematic, on going and criterion based.
  • The effectiveness of the learning activity is evaluated in relation to the learners achievement of the educational objectives.
  • Future planning of educational activities incorporates evaluation data.
  • The Clinical Instructor systematically evaluates the quality and effectiveness of Nursing Professional Development practice
  • Identifies aspects of nursing professional development practice important for quality monitoring.
  • Identifies indicators used to monitor quality and effectiveness of Nursing Professional Development practice.
  • Collects data to monitor quality and effectiveness of Nursing Professional Development practice.
  • Analyzes data to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Formulates recommendations to improve Nursing Professional practice.
  • Participates on interdisciplinary teams that evaluate professional development.
