About The Position

UPMC Corporate Health Services is hiring a Clinical Informatics Specialist to join our team! This role will work Monday through Friday during standard business hours. At times, the role can assist with occasional weekend, evening and night shifts as needed during go live support or downtime support. The position will travel to other UPMC facilities as needed. Under the direction of the manager/Director, Clinical and Operational Informatics (DCOI), the Clinical Informatics Specialist has the responsibility and accountability of assessing and assisting in the investigation, development, and implementation of new technology as it relates to clinical practice and serving as a liaison for end users and the Informatics division. Clinical Informatics Specialist participates on project teams to ensure a successful, on time go live. He/she develops and maintains project deliverables in accordance with application project goals. He/she gathers and communicates data to the manager/DCOI, or others as requested. Frequent travel within region/system required. Position requires schedule flexibility as directed by manager/DCOI. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a health-related field, preferably in Healthcare Informatics, Information Technology, or related to patient care (i.e., Nursing) and a minimum of two years of healthcare experience in a professional setting is required.
  • In lieu of a bachelors degree, high school diploma or GED and five years of relevant experience required.
  • Successful completion of the Credentialed Trainer program in a relevant application OR Epic Clinical Informatics Certification required within one year of hire.
  • Clinical professionals who have a state-regulated license shall be expected to maintain their license in good standing while employed in this role

Responsibilities

  • Assumes responsibility as assigned to assist with the continuous improvement projects and maintenance of the eRecord. Participates in research activities, submits abstracts for presentation at local, regional, and national conferences/professional meetings, submits articles for publications, and/or participates in community/volunteer activities. Participates upon request in system application validation.
  • Is empowered to engage appropriate health care personnel and eRecord team members as issues arise. Identifies and communicates learning needs to appropriate manager. Prior to performing new or challenging skills, requests assistance and reviews relevant policies and procedures. Participates in interdepartmental and system activities to encourage communication. Provides informatics mentorship at the unit/dept level helping to develop an interest in informatics. Forms a partnership with end users to maintain an open dialogue for continuous feedback and quality improvement. Creates a work environment to promote flow of ideas for improvement of the eRecord. Maintains membership on, or consultation to, committees, work groups, or task forces as needed to communicate and facilitate the ongoing progress of development, implementation, and revision of the clinical information system. Participates in Informatics Professional organization activities to enhance personal growth and cultivate relationships in the field at a regional and national level. Performs all other job-related activities as assigned.
  • Objectively observes and educates end users utilizing unit rounding to identify ongoing educational needs regarding clinical documentation issues, patient care challenges, and software application upgrades. Prioritizes issues and reports them accordingly. Active participant in staff workflow assessment in clinical informatics projects. Provides support to manager/DCOI by setting meetings and establishing groups for resolution of EHR assessment. Functions as an internal consultant, resource person, and educator to all levels of personnel in accordance with the objectives of the informatics department. Supports change initiatives at the local and system level as directed by the manager/DCOI.Communicates by preparing and educating at all levels the various types of functionality impact to the end users? workflow. This communication may include but not limited to the creation of articles for publications, Learning, or any educational venue. Demonstrates basic knowledge of system and local technology applications and the integration of these systems regarding the impact to the end user. Participates in Informatics Council, both local and system level. Assists in preparation of agendas, handouts, and documents meeting minutes. Active participant in assigned committees and work groups with communication back to informatics team/manager/DCOI. Collects and assembles data for the purpose of evaluation of EHR projects. Show proficiency in running explorer menu reports.
