The Clinical Informaticist (CI) is an expert in the use of health information technology (HIT) applied to clinical care and health care business operations; they use informatics concepts, methods, and tools to promote safe, effective, and optimal use of technologies. The CI is adept in PDSA methods and change management, serving as change agents themselves. They team with informatics, IT, and operational colleagues to assess, plan, and evaluate changes to systems and identify the impact to clinical workflows. The CI uses their knowledge of both clinical workflows and health IT to optimize systems and workflows through user-centered design. They solve issues paying special attention to usability, and incorporate quality, regulatory, and other high priority organizational initiatives in the design. The CI applies their knowledge of healthcare processes to manage and communicate data, information, knowledge, and wisdom in clinical practice and health care operations while remaining focused on the interaction of people, processes and technology for the complete and optimal delivery of information needed for efficient, high quality and safe patient care. They anticipate the need for secondary data use and their impact on system design and understand the intersection of clinical care, technology, and data. This specific role will support Shared Clinical Services (0.5 FTE) and Order Sets (0.5 FTE).
