Manages, directs, documents, and organizes Clinical Engineering, corrective maintenance, preventative maintenance, projects, and day-to-day operational duties for assigned hospitals/sites and resources. Functions as the primary contact and “face of” Clinical Engineering for hospital leadership, staff, outside vendor equipment service providers and the greater hospital system. Part of the Clinical Engineering management team across all Jefferson locations managing SLA’s, KPI’s, budgets, OEM and 3rd party support contracts, reporting up to the VP/AVP of Clinical Engineering. Manages day-to-day operations and Biomedical/Imaging staff in support of hospital/site operations, support, reporting, and regulatory compliance. Assesses the impact of scheduled preventive maintenance frequency and content on unscheduled equipment failures and recommends/implement changes. Provides budget development assistance and oversight. Monitor and assist with service, repair, and maintenance on clinical equipment and/or assigned equipment/devices/systems. Order and/or locate parts as needed, verifying prices and if alternate sources are available and appropriate. Monitor vendor and in-house response times to maximize equipment uptime and distribute workloads based on preventive and corrective maintenance service needs. Determines training needs for in-house service staff and recommends/implements arrangements to test equipment and tools. Participates in all projects related to equipment selection, acquisition, acceptance testing, installation, and user training for equipment used or supported within assigned areas. Develops, analyzes, and presents the periodic cost of service reports. Make and implement approved recommendations and action plans to ensure that all budgets and targets are met. Reviews specifications for new equipment acquisition based on requests, and approved capital equipment budgets. Additional Responsibilities: Manage assigned biomedical support staff and locations, including weekly on-call rotation for after-hours and weekend support, Serve as primary point of escalation for support issues Performs on-site rounds to verify equipment operational status and marked observations concerning equipment performance Prioritize scheduled maintenance for medical equipment maintenance and reviews the status of completion rates, reassigns staff and work priorities to ensure attainment of completion rates Reviews all incident reports related to equipment malfunction and/or misuse and takes appropriate actions to ensure that the equipment is taken out of service for failure mode analysis Reviews monthly failure rates, response times, productivity, and efficiency work data for all service providers and makes/recommends improvements to maximize available resources Reviews operational performance data and reports variances to the service provider and/or department director for evaluation and corrective actions. Develops, produces, and implements necessary action plans on issues related to equipment maintenance and support services Responsible for Monthly Operational Reports (MOR), including SLA’s, KPI’s, and other metrics Reviews, audits, and approves vendor work invoices and related service documentation to verify appropriate billing and compliance with hospital policies and procedures Reviews, revises, and/or develops preventive maintenance and quality control testing procedures based on manufacturer recommendations Reviews and authorizes all staff requests for purchase of parts or external vendor services which exceed $5,000 per work event Assist with recall/alert identification and management Reviews FDA, ECRI, manufacturer, and/or other device recall and problem notification sources to verify if any of the covered equipment falls within the problem equipment listings Reviews Incident Reports related to equipment malfunction or misuse and takes actions to ensure patient safety Assists with coordinating and performing clinical trials on new equipment under consideration for purchase Attending vendor sponsored technical training service schools Participates in continuous performance improvement initiatives related to medical equipment use Interviews candidates for employment and makes hiring and termination recommendations for in-house equipment service staff positions Maintains training and competency records on all service staff. Develops and implements staff cross-training programs to ensure that all technical staff have opportunities to expand technical knowledge Performs annual performance evaluation reviews and provides quarterly assessment reviews of work productivity and effectiveness Special projects and other duties in support of the hospital system as assigned Periodically conform to a flexible work schedule on an as-needed basis
